The last time husband&wife released a 7" vinyl single was about seven years ago. That was a split with their pals Away With Vega, and it went out of print very quickly. The whole endeavor was quite exciting for a young band; recording new material at home, self-releasing a record, selling out of them on tour, and once they were gone, it was over. On to the next project.
And that's kind of how it's been ever since for husband&wife. I suppose they're feeling that 7-year itch that I've heard people talk about. Truth be told, husband&wife is neck deep in new material at the moment; slowly working out the kinks in their studio at home and trying to get enough good stuff together to polish off the grit and make a new album.
In the meantime though, they don't want to make you wait to hear that new stuff. They've hand-picked two of the new songs, I'll Wait and Don't Rush, to release on a brand new 7" single. Hopefully, with a repeat performance of the last time's excitement and momentum. Only this time, they're doing it on their own.
Well, not entirely on their own...I guess that's why we're here, right? We want YOU to be a part of it, from the very beginning.
The plan here is to take these two songs on a road trip to Chicago, IL where our good friend and recording engineer Dave Vettraino lives. He's done a lot of great stuff, but recently and notably recorded Damien Jurado's "Live at Landlocked" LP (that's him, there, on the back cover)!
The way we figure, for $1700 we can travel to Chicago, record the songs, manufacture the 7", the T-shirts, and the artwork and have just enough left to mail everything to you when it's done.
We're not asking for charity, though. We've tried our best to ensure that whatever amount of money you decide to pitch in for this project, what you get in return will be worth it. Take a look at the options and let us know what you think. We're very excited about this project and hope that you're into making it with us.
There is a detailed menu to the right that lets you know what you can get for how-much-money, but here's an abbreviated list of all things we're making available during this campaign:
- MP3s of the new songs, "I'll Wait" and "Don't Rush"
- brand new 7" vinyl single with the new songs, packaged in exclusive artwork by Jeff Beaver
- new husband&wife T-shirt featuring a design exclusive to this campaign (the shirt will not be available anywhere else once this project is completed)
- a rare test pressing of the new 7" single
- up to TWO new acoustic versions of ANY husband&wife songs of your choosing, recorded just for you (here's a list of songs to choose from)
- an ultra-rare test pressing of the first ever h&w 7" split with Away with Vega (only 5 lucky folks can get in on this one)
- TWO charmed individuals have the chance to get their name and a special word of thanks etched into EVERY SINGLE copy of the new 7"
- husband&wife will travel to your town (in the lower 48 states) and play a show where you get to choose the set list (of husband&wife songs, of course)!
We need to extend a special THANK YOU to the following individuals for already being of great assistance in this project:
Kevin Winkler, Jared Cheek & Landlocked Music, Ben Lumsdaine, Anna Teeter, Patrick Beard, Adam Jessup, Alice Knipstine, Zack Melton, Cousin Al, Torlando Hakes, Christopher Stearly, Jeff Beaver, Aaron Denton, Derek Miller, Jeannette Lehr, and the Bloomington Print Collective.

At this stage in the game, the biggest challenge for us is scheduling and reserving a time for five or six adults with lives raging around them to hole themselves up in a studio and take the time necessary to make a good record. Luckily, we've got years of experience in scheduling shows, studio time, album release dates, booking tours and manufacturing records.
In addition to the audio engineers we're hoping to employ for this project, we've got two fully qualified recording/mixing engineers in the band who can take the reigns on this project if need be. What's more, another fellow in the band has been booking our tours and assisting in booking other bands' tours for the better part of that last 6 years. Beyond that, we've all been working, in some capacity or another, for XRA Records over their last 40 releases. When it comes to releasing albums/music we know exactly what we're doing. In this instance, we just need to raise a little money beforehand in order to make it happen.
You can assist in this project with every confidence that whatever you've purchased will arrive in a timely manner and in the detail listed in the campaign. Thanks!
