About

Every artist I've asked says they've never heard of such a thing, and would buy one if the price is right.  I've looked, and I can find nothing like it.  I would like to do a "Lite" and "Pro" version in production models, the "Pro" obviously heavier-guage and sturdier for larger paintings, perhaps with a collapsible tripod as part of or specifically for it, easily attachable.  All that said, my crude mock-up ain't gonna cut it as a template for production.  It needs to be auto-cad-ed with mathematical formulas and such, and fabricated with a precision great enough to hand it to a mass-manufacturer and say: "I need a thousand or ten of these by next month," and this not be a problem.  I've got a local fabricator/ prototypist in mind, one both with extensive experience in such things and connections to manufacturing, recommended by those who know; but their time is apparently big money (as I have recently come to realize) and this would likely take several days of their valuable time.  All I'm trying to accomplish with this kickstarter is to determine the simple feasibility of this as mass-producible or not, by price-point and profit-margins, etc, and I am inclined to believe that it is.  However, I am offering rewards to backers that would be independent of the success of this venture as a commercial enterprise for the very reason that it may never happen.  Which would be sad, cuz it's damn cool and potentially useful to many artists, I think.  BTW, I did patent this in the poor-man's way by getting it witnessed and notarized, and sending it to myself by first-class mail, leaving it sealed until any potential court affairs... so if there's anyone trollin' for free ideas out there, i've got a legal backhand chuno-chop for ya, h'yah!  It's such a niche market that I doubt it, but.. yea.

Stretch Goals:  I'll take as much as I can get, because this is one of dozens of inventions floating around in my head and sketchbooks, and I'd also like to get into artistic metalworking and mass-production of my art and designs on posters and shirts.  If i somehow managed to pull in ten grand or so, or more, the conversation would change from taking my plans to a fabricator to acquiring fabrication implements and expanding my parents' garage to accommodate them, where I could also likely live as well as make a living.  The price point would likely be lower per unit to contract mass-production, rather than acquire materials and fabricate myself, but I could at least set up my own prototype/fabrication/artistic metal-work shop.  I've got funky artistic and potentially production-able adjustable furniture in mind, a caster-board that can go to fakie and doesn't break (unlike the one you can buy at toys-r-us, rides like a snowboard on land, more for the hardcore crowd), collapsible mini-bridges and such, freakin' anti-gravity, man, like, perpetual motion, aw sh-..ucks, am I gettin' carried away?  Anyway, I've got Ideas, yes, with a capital i, just no resources: for my own back-asswardness, wanton squander, bad choices, bad luck, all of the above, a general malaise that I think I'm finally shaking off.. just help a brutha out, will ya?  Tree-zel, Inc. might blow up worldwide, baby!  Too bad you can't state philanthropic intentions on kickstarter... wink!

Risks and challenges

I know the design works, if it worked at the level it did in its crudest form... I just don't know if it can happen on a commercial scale that would yield profits worth pursuing. These are questions that the local prototypist can answer or at least elucidate, but I have to get in the door first.. and that takes a few bucks. I'll launch another Kickstarter to fund production if it seems like a plan, if the numbers add up and the word is go. Or, like I said, if the numbers add up better and I get enough funds to invest in a torch and cylinder, pipe-bender, press, etc, it's game on for this and potentially a lot of ideas, old and new, in the parents' backyard. I'll see when and if phase 1 is a success (this being phase 1).

An art-piece t-shirt or beanie I screen print with your choice of several designs, specify which and size, as well as the first reward (email, cartoons). I say art-piece because it may be one from the thrift-store that I print on, and you're not allowed to do consignment here. Just so that's understood.. If outside U.S. and pledge more than once at this level, you'll get three for two or four for three to account for the cost of shipping per pledge when they can obviously all be shipped in one.

A homemade, hippie/punk-zine-style booklet of my funny cartoons and such (perhaps bound in hemp or recycled blue-jean), autographed of course: there may be staples, zip-ties, elmer's glue, or all of the above involved, just so there are no surprises. It will likely be crude and juvenile but amusing, if you're into that sorta thing.. i'll try to make sure it's the most ridiculous thing on yer coffee table, and no two will be alike!

All of the above and a custom-made pre-production "Tree-zel," assembled from whatever I find with which to make it. The idea is extreme portability, so it will be light, collapse small and probably come in a cinch-sak, as I intend for the production model as well. I spent zero dollars on my crude mock-up, so it's kinda rough-looking, but yours will have an actual ball joint that I order rather than my rigged one, the x-brace holder assembly will not be made of hacked-up curtain rods, and i'm sure I can get some minor welding done somewhere so no wooden blocks are involved. I will likely use a simple TV mount, the kind that sits flush with the wall (ten bucks at the A/V store) as the base, and will bust out the sewing machine to make the backpack straps look nice. I will also make it tripod-compatible/adaptable for you, perhaps even buying a thrift-shop tripod and modifying it into a treezel, so it's both!
