IT’S ABOUT A TRIVIA GENIUS, whose obscure life in the New York trivia underworld is disrupted by the announcement that “Trivia Night,” the impossible game show that humiliated him five years ago, is auditioning past contestants to compete on its final show ever.
WE NEED YOUR HELP TO TURN A GREAT STORY INTO A HILARIOUS FILM! This is an original take on the ridiculous lengths we all go to with our obsessions, set in the bizarre and fascinating world of bar trivia nights and quiz shows. The characters are funny and unique yet (we’re embarrassed to admit) a lot like all of us.
WHERE WILL YOUR MONEY GO? We are trying to make this film on a shoestring budget, but we want it be a really great shoestring. We’re asking for the minimum we think is necessary to do this story justice.
Locations: $2800 for places we can’t just borrow or steal, mostly bars and the set of the “Trivia Night” quiz show.
Props and Set Dressing: $2010 for a lot of little things that are going to really flesh out the world.
Storage: $200 to store those little things during the month we’re shooting.
Wardrobe: $1000 to make our main characters indelible.
Cast and Crew: $9300 for people we couldn’t justifiably ask to donate their time for free.
Gear and Expendables: $1500, mostly for gas and batteries.
Catering: $5700 so that everybody on set has something to eat. Even the people working for free.
Post-Production: $5500 for the people who will turn the footage into a movie, give it a score, and make it look and sound amazing.
Festival Submissions: $1500 to get it out into the world.
Kickstarter’s Fee: $3000 because they’re a business too guys.
Contingency Costs: $2490 because something always comes up.
Trivia Night is a dark comedy about trivia, entertainment, and the dangers of success. It focuses on Scott, a man whose obsession with knowledge carves a dangerous path toward greatness. As a character, Scott’s DNA is directly from our favorite antiheros of the 70’s-living in the shadow of Trivia Night, unable to tell whether he’s controlling it, or it’s controlling him.
Aside from the writers’ research and our own experiences living in New York, the film is inspired by some of our favorite New Hollywood films and filmmakers, such as King of Comedy, Scarecrow, Taxi Driver, and many others.
Beyond having a great script, my collaborators give me confidence that we will create a successful film. Comedy requires everyone be tonally and stylistically aligned with the material. I’ve had the opportunity to direct over 30 sketch comedy videos written and performed by the writers. We’ve developed a valuable shorthand impossible to come by through a more conventional collaboration. We’ve also collaborated on larger shorts with a full crew and production to learn how to create an indie feature.
We have a unique voice and perspective to contribute to the variety of independent films being created by our generation. Unlike the usual studio-fare, Trivia Night is a film that can only be created with your support. Thank you for visiting our Kickstarter page!
THANKS FOR YOUR SUPPORT!

Risks and challenges
Is it possible to make a feature film for just $35K? Of course! While the shoestring budget will force us to get creative with every aspect of production we're confident that our collective experiences both on and off camera will help us maximize your donations.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
