The Year of the Dwagon Begins
100% funded in 3 days. I...don't know if anything better than this has ever happened to me.
Let me call a time out for a second, so I can talk about what this means. This is bigger than just "acquiring the money to do a project that I've been thinking about for years." This is an amazing demonstration of what Erfworld fans can do. That's very important. ...No, listen to me. I'm not just kissing your asses. That's very important!
Much of this money will end up back in the hands of Erfworld fans. I want to involve people in the project as voice talent, and that's only where it starts. Read "Cognitive Surplus" by Clay Shirky. You are more than readers and supporters, you are capable of doing great things together if you have the right framework. In Shirky's terminology, Kickstarter works because it's such a good framework for surplus generosity.
I want a new Erfworld.com that is a framework for collaborating and sharing your art, writing, music, games, and other entertaining stuff, centered around the comic. Erfworld readers are smart, creative people with a lot of overlapping areas of interest. (Again, not kissing your asses, it's true and you know it.) You can do at least as much to entertain each other as I can to entertain you.
I am opening up two partially complete documents that you can edit. Please don't vandalize them. If you have ideas or feel you can better organize what we have there so far, please do so (especially if you have site design experience).
We need about $15,000 of outside programming assistance plus software and licensing to build the kind of dream website we want. We will try to hire from the Erfworld readership on this as well.
That's our next goal. By next week I will have another video and probably some additional incentives for the main page.
Please keep contributing and squawking about this project on all channels, because you can make this Erfworld's "big leap" year, the Year of the Dwagon.
