About

I love tea. I have enjoyed the benefits of using bulk herbs of all different kinds to make tea with. I don’t want just a few ounces but I cannot find a tea ball large enough for the one jar that I drink through the day.

So, I took a common Mason jar silicone sippy lid and inserted a high quality stainless steel mesh screen into it!

Now I get to enjoy as much tea as I want through the day and gain all the benefits of the various herbs that I use for healing. I put in the herbs, pour over hot water, wait and drink! The mesh keeps out pretty much everything I don’t want. Clean up is easy, and the mesh helps prevent sloshing.

Yum! Nettle, Cohosh, and black walnut!

The benefits of using herbs for different reasons don’t need any explanation. Once you start to discover what your body needs from day to day, you won’t often go back to some miserly tea bag with it’s predetermined ingredient (and who knows what pesticides or fertilizers).

Join me to make these handy filtering lids even better. We can make these lids from very high quality materials in a design that prevents spilling, and is even easier to clean! I’ve found some awesome and equitable local manufacturers here in New England that can produce quantities for us - if we have enough money to get a production run going.

The idea is so simple, I’m amazed it hasn’t already been done, but that’s why Kickstarter is here, for the rest of us to make cool stuff.

Enjoy lower cost and more diversity by signing up with us now!

Here’s my favorite recipe:

2 gal Mason Jar

1 small handful of organic Hibiscus

1 big handful of organic Lemon Balm

1 small handful of Chamomile

1 Good pinch of Lavender

1 small pinch of Slippery Elm powder

1 dollop of natural unfiltered honey (from a local source you trust)

Lemon balm, Chamomile, Hibiscus, Slippery Elm, Peppermint, Lavender

A note about hot water and typical glass jars. The larger the jar, the more important it is to preheat it entirely with warm water before adding hotter water for steeping. If the temperature is quite different between two places, the jar really could fracture. I’ve done this a few times with the Bell brand, but not since I warm the jar first.

After adding the herbs, add Hot water, but never even near boiling because we don’t want to scald the herbs or break the jar.

Then we wait till cool enough to drink and enjoy!

Risks and challenges

The risks are really in the sourcing and manufacture. If the manufacturer isn’t able to produce the quality we expect, then I am prepared to do it in my own home with molds if need be.

That seems pretty unlikely because molding a silicone sippy cup with steel mesh is not that complex and the basic materials are abundantly available here.

Another risk is the possibility that my design is covered by an existing Patent and I will be asked to cease and desist. Should that happen, I am a designer by nature and practice, and I will be able to create sufficient differences to ensure that this product is protected under its own Design Patent. I have not yet found an applicable Utility Patent that covers “mesh lid for jar” in a way that I would be infringing with this project.

It is possible that shipping may get misdirected or that a natural disaster occurs to prevent the manufacture and delivery, but I’m sure to use equitable businesses that insure their process and delivery.

As for the shipping, this product is very lightweight and can be sent through a number of simple methods including regular mail. If there is a shipping strike and the demand is incredible I will commit to getting a dog so that we can make sure those envelopes all get licked in record time.
