Original music from the creator of "MERCYLAND: Hymns For The Rest Of Us"!
Between my appearances with Emmylou Harris, I've been performing the songs of Mercyland: Hymns For The Rest Of Us as a solo artist and with a band. It's been such a joy bringing these songs to house concerts and clubs across the country. Video of one of the shows can be found at the bottom of this page.
Now, I'm about to come out with a new solo recording.
Like Mercyland, I have brought in an amazing cast of musicians. At this juncture, the project includes the virtuosic playing of bassists Byron House and Chris Donohue, the steady pulse of drummer Bryan Owings, and the beautiful singing of Gordon Kennedy and Buddy Miller, and that of Cindy Morgan who has once again co-written with me as only she can do. I'm pretty sure Matraca Berg will be singing on one we wrote as well as playing some harmonica.
13 songs by written by yours truly, some co-written with Matraca Berg, Merrill Farnsworth, Amy Grant, Steve Hindalong, Gordon Kennedy, and Cindy Morgan. Yes, I've got some wonderful women balancing out my gruff self with Steve and GK thrown in for good measure. David Mansfield, who's played with everyone from Bob Dylan to T-Bone Burnette to Sting, is coming in to play fiddle, mandolin, and pedal steel. Steve Hindalong, percussionist extraordinaire, not only wrote one of the tunes with me, but shakes the tar off of a tambourine on a few numbers. Funky Drummer Brady Blade makes an appearance on one song. Byron, Steve, David, and Bryan joined me for our Americana showcase "Mercyland At Downtown Church" this past September. (Watch for a future Kickstarter program for the Live Mercyland DVD!).
Once again, we'll be offering hand-painted postcards which were such a hit with the Mercyland backers.
I know you'll like this project.
Merrill Farnsworth once again contributes two amazing lyrics, just as she did on two songs from Mercyland, including the title track of that project. I'd be remiss if I didn't mention that the title of this new CD is her idea as well.
Amy Grant and I wrote a song that will blow a lot of minds. It's one of the murkier tunes on the project, and I love it; it's real.
Plans to include the entire band of Emmylou's Red Dirt Boys are in the works, as well as more surprises which will reveal themselves during this season of partnership with you wonderful Kickstarters.
Making the music isn't that difficult when you work with the best. The hard part is raising the funds to pay everyone a fair wage, manufacture CDs, and promote the project.
That's where YOU come in.
My team and I have put together as broad a range of backing rewards as possible, from $10 Downloads of "p.m." to the instruments I used in making this record. Yep, I'm actually making a few of my guitars available- they've inspired me, and perhaps will inspire whoever decides to back the project at a fairly substantial level.
And for someone who really wants to pony up... I'll let go of my trusty 1962 Hammond B3 organ, which has been on 100s of great records.
For the Mercyland project, I offered House Concerts, and they were wonderful events, intimate and fun. Again, we offer such rewards to backers, as well as co-writing opportunities, which also proved popular.
I hope you'll join in make this project a success. I've set a modest goal, but I know we can far surpass that. I'll be faithful to update you all on the process of the recording and everything that goes into making a project happen.
Thanks for reading this and considering my new solo project: "p.m."
All the best,

Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
I'm confident that we can make this happen! Having done the Kickstarter thing before, I've calculated the delivery dates to the best of my knowledge and experience. Keep in mind that things can go awry- the CD manufacture is complex so I'll be depending on a reputable company to get the job done right; things like printing errors can occur, and in such cases, delivery could be delayed.
I want all of us to be satisfied with the product. Things get lost in the mail occasionally... If there are any snafus, I will let all the backers know via updates. However, if you don't receive your reward by the estimated delivery date, please contact me, and I will do all I can do to make sure you are satisfied.
Have a question? If the info above doesn't help, you can ask the project creator directly.
