About this project
I am a tiny robot who likes to play luck and strategy games, glide or race and even shake to a cool groove.
My language is colorful - it all happens through SmartCodes. You can ask me to change speeds, direction or even dance around.
We created Ozobot to bring social gaming back to game night. Ozobot is a physical game piece that can play with virtual worlds, creating a bridge between old and new, cutting edge and nostalgic.
While Ozobot loves to play, learning is also a natural activity. Imagine a group of school kids completing an app learning game using Ozobot’s SmartCodes. In the process of completing their game mission, they are also learning the fundamentals of robotic programming...
Measuring slightly over an inch in diameter and height, Ozobot is the world's most compact smart robot of its kind and features some of the smallest components on the planet.
Ozobot will come with four free apps for iOS and Android. More apps will follow every few months along with 3rd party developers adding their creations into the mix.
Help Ozobot escape mazes using various SmartTiles as you navigate using straight lines, turns and intersections in order to win.
Push the limits as you explore Ozobot’s color language while creating intricate patterns and designs.
A modern day game of chance. Watch Ozobot cruise through mazes and customizable exits to decide your fate.
This multi robot hybrid race game merges the digital world with physical tracks, creating a new and engaging gaming experience.
The possibility of bridging digital and physical gaming has been one of our most exciting frontiers. Ozobot's ability to operate in both worlds and autonomously navigate between them created a new realm which we call hybrid gaming. Whether you are enjoying the thrill of a racing game or testing your skills on a strategic board game, the Ozobot hybrid gaming platform will capture your imagination and let you experience new and classic games like never before.
Our journey began in the spring of 2012 with the idea of finding different ways to play, learn and socially interact in an evolving digital world.
The idea gained traction when we started researching robots and their evolution through time. We started with a line-sensing robot and began building from there. Two years and countless revisions later, our idea grew into the smallest little robot we could make: Ozobot.
Size and consistency of behavior has since been our driving forces to make Ozobot as small and as smart as possible. …And with your help, it’s going to be fun to see how far we can take Ozobot.
Robotics Business Review (Emily Kent)“Who says game night has to be confined to either a physical or digital world… Ozobot fuses elements from the physical (the robot) and digital (smartphone and tablet) world into one gaming experience and platform.”
Popular Mechanics (Davey Alba, Associate Editor)“Ozobot, a game-playing robot, wants you to get physical with digital games — and it could be on to something.”
Mashable (Lance Ulanoff, Editor-in-Chief)
interesting about Ozobot is the path detection and small size; it opens
up possibilities that didn't exist with earlier, larger gadgets.”
PC Magazine (Jamie Lendino, Lead Analyst)
charming is Ozobot, a tiny robot that follows lines drawn on screens or
paper—it’s a simple concept that’s surprisingly fun…It's easy to
imagine a class of third-graders making their own tracks, learning the
Ozobot logic, and generally being creative with the things.”
NBC News (Devin Coldewey)
robots are looking to cross the bridge between digital and physical
gaming worlds, all while adding a charming bit of randomness to the
occasion…Things get even more intriguing when you start to consider how
the Ozobot can roam off a tablet screen and head onto a table top. All
it takes is a line and some imagination.”
CNET (Amanda Kooser)
We have been working with our manufacturing partner for the last year to validate our prototypes and confirm Ozobot’s readiness for production. We successfully completed our first sample run which we shared for the first time at CES. The results were overwhelmingly positive and we are happy and energized by the positive response. Thank you.
While Ozobot is getting smarter, so are the games, and the Ozobot app team has been working tirelessly to keep up with Ozobot and develop the best ways to play. Today, Ozobot has four apps, and with your help we can keep building and sharing Ozobot with other developers to build more and more games and unearth capabilities that are yet to be imagined and designed.
Ozobot’s first showing was a CES success. So now we believe, it is time to share Ozobot with the world!
To properly take Ozobot to market, we still need to go through a few phases including a comprehensive quality control process to make sure Ozobot passes all testing and can truly be market ready.
With your help we will:
Phase 1 (from now through March)
- Complete final firmware and hardware adjustments
- Finalize production quality assurance procedures
- Place first full scale production order
- Obtain regulatory approvals and certifications
Phase 2 (April - May)
- Complete the production run
- Finalize our initial iOS apps and Android porting
- Ship product from factory
Phase 3 (June)
- All rewards shipped to backers
- Release apps on the app stores
Phase 4 (Q4)
- Release our SDK for third party app developers
Show the world digital can be taken to a new level. Join our gaming revolution and spread the word through your network. Enlist others. The more who know, the more we play.
Risks and challenges
We already completed the pre-production process and are getting ready for full scale manufacturing. However, delays in production may happen, depending on the certification process, component availability or factory’s production pipeline.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
