We need your help to make this happen!
Charlie Chaplin is the first and biggest name in Hollywood. The world embraced him 100 years ago and still going strong 37 years after his death. Dedication to him and the happiness he spread has grown and been taken to new heights throughout the entire planet. This journey is a prime example of just that and this documentary is your way of following it.
Why Canada?, Why India? ...Why Chaplin?
This journey involves three people; Jason Allin from Canada, Dr. Ashok Aswani from India, and Charlie Chaplin. These countries are on opposite sides of the planet, yet they have a connection through Charlie Chaplin.
You see, Jason Allin is a professional Chaplin performer from Innisfil, Ontario, Canada who has spent much of his time honing his emulation of Chaplin and performing. Dr. Ashok Aswani is a dedicated fan and founder of the Charlie Circle Club in Adipur, India who began celebrating Chaplin's birthday over 40 years ago with a parade and festival with many participants. Their connection happened when Jason stumbled across media and coverage of Dr. Aswani's Chaplin festivities on the internet and wanted to contact Ashok and learn more about it. Once they connected, a friendship was formed. Almost immediately, they realized that they not only had Chaplin in common, but they both are doing what they do for very similar reasons. They both want to continue spreading humour and happiness as Charles Chaplin did with his "Little Fellow" character that started 100 years ago.
Now, it's not just a trip to India! Jason will be stopping in London, England to discover Chaplin's place of birth and his neighbourhood as a child before heading to India.
...and why make a Documentary about it?
First and foremost, taking everyone along for the journey through a documentary would be the best way to share these experiences in a format that can be enjoyed often and by many. The point of this journey is to help spread the happiness began by Charlie Chaplin himself and sometimes travelling to the other side of the planet is the best way to do it, in this instance it is. What better year to commemorate such a piece of history and hearts than this being the centennial and his 125th birthday? The cultural diversity between the countries of Canada and India is a wonderful paintbrush for continuing Chaplin's strokes on the canvas of a documentary. In his absence, we shall do what we can to share what we love about the messages we find in Chaplin's films. This documentary will begin in Canada as Jason prepares for his flight to London, England. Once in London, Jason will tour Chaplin spots before heading off to Mumbai Airport, India, then to Bhuj Airport, India and finally travelling by ground transportation to Adipur, India to begin the festivities and celebration of Charles' 125th birthday with Dr. Ashok Aswani and his Charlie Circle.
Risks and challenges
This project funding will be used to help offset the cost of travel and production of this documentary. Traveling from Toronto, Ontario, Canada to Adipur, India for Jason and a camera person is quite costly. With your help, the first cost to be covered will be the cost of airfare and lodging as needed which will be approximately $4,000 CDN. Any extra funding will go directly into production of the documentary itself and coverage of rewards. Without the help of Kickstarter funding, all costs will be out of pocket. Please consider contributing if you believe in our message of spreading the happiness around the world that Chaplin began.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
