DEUS EX MACHINA 2 : REBOOT
Deus Ex Machina 2 is the brand new evolution of the cult 1984 Game Of The Year, Deus Ex Machina, the first true multimedia video game ever made.
Written by Mel Croucher, creator of the original game, and published by Automata, the first video games company in the UK, this completely new version is a darkly comic roller-coaster of your whole life. It's a surreal 100-year voyage from cradle to grave, and the music's great too!
- DRM free
- developed in Unity
- play options in English and 18 more languages
- soundtrack album released and book prepared for publication
This is our second Kickstarter campaign, and huge thanks to backers of the first campaign who voted on the cover artwork, music, graphics, and scoring of the game. You have all been rewarded and will have named dedications in our special publication of the book of the game.
WHY YOUR MONEY IS NEEDED
- Now we need to put the results of your votes into Deus Ex Machina 2 before we release the PC and Mac versions.
- We also need to create the spectacular final sequence of the game itself, to feature as many of your names and faces as we can, alongside our celebrity stars.
- We need to produce your lovely rewards too, and of course we must pay Kickstarter their fees for making this all happen.
And OUR GOAL to achieve all of this is to raise £9,800 with your help. That's just under $15,000 or just over €11,000. And if you help us do better than that, here's what we'll do in return ...
STRETCH GOALS beyond £9,800
LINUX version. Because we have developed the PC and Mac versions of Deus Ex Machina 2 in Unity, we can produce the Linux version fast and very cost-effectively. Help us hit our first stretch goal to produce the DRM-free Linux version of the game.
OCULUS RIFT. We want to make the game as mind-blowing as we can, so a virtual reality version is high on our target list. We'll produce Deus Ex Machina 2 The Director's Cut, for the Oculus Rift virtual reality headset if you can help us hit this stretch goal.
Battle your way to the womb, navigate the birth slalem to get born, then focus, crawl, stand, balance, run, jump, learn, obey and rebel! Pluck the hairs and squeeze the zits of adolescence. Discover the pleasures of love, and the pains of guilt and betrayal. Mess around, run away, hide out, suffer under, heal up, sell off, struggle through, knuckle down, trample over, cave in, dance on! Exploit your power, bust your body, fight your decline, swallow your pills, lose your mind, dream your dreams and fly!
Sperms, cops, killer-ducks, naughty bits, zimmer frames, hallicinogenic eyewear, dead mice, dementia, hermaphrodites, land mines, war crimes, neurons, morons, rock stars, and the greatest voice on the planet as your Narrator.
Imagine if your life was nothing more than an electronic game. Imagine if you knew then what you know now. Imagine if you could replay your little life all over again. Welcome to Deus Ex Machina 2.

Risks and challenges
All human activity involves risks and challenges, and games development is no exception. Developers can run out of time, producers can run out of money, key personnel can run out the door to join the circus, early ambitions can turn out to be impractical, and there's the situation where everything goes to plan but the plan stinks.
Well, I don't think we're going to run out of time, because all the hard slog has been completed and we're now into perfection phase. I don't think we're going to run out of money, with your help, because the development, the music, the translations and the artwork are all paid for, and this funding is about putting you, the backer, into the game, and about putting the votes of our most loyal Kickstarter backers into practice. And our team is stable, experienced and besides we've already joined the circus.
Since I started the first ever video games company in the UK, my team has never failed to deliver on time every time. This time it's no different and I believe the risk of failing to complete the project is very low indeed. If I happen to drop dead, go mad or disappear, then my colleagues will take over seamlessly.
Essentially, this is the game I have wanted to make since 1983, ever since I ran up against the technical limitations to my future-vision first time round. All I had to do was wait 30 years for the technology to catch up, and for Kickstarter to put me in touch with you. I want to make this game not for myself, but for all of us. So, maybe the only real risk for you to consider is that Deus Ex Machina 2 stinks.
Right at the start, thirty years ago, I took the risk of defying the norms and busting the templates of conventional gaming, by producing Deus Ex Machina as an interactive movie, played in real time to a perfectly synchronized rock music soundtrack. And now I pledge to do everything I can to turn that original vision into reality at last.
My heartfelt thanks to you for taking the time to read this. If you're considering backing the project then I hope you enjoy the ride and I look forward to welcoming you aboard with open arms. Keep smiling.
