DEUS EX MACHINA 2
Deus Ex Machina 2 is the reimagination of the classic 1984 Game Of The Year, Deus Ex Machina, the first true multimedia video game ever made.
Written by Mel Croucher, creator of the original game, published by Automata, the first video games company in the UK, this brand new version is a darkly comic cradle-to-grave roller coaster of your entire life. It takes you on a surreal journey from before your own birth, all the way through the temptations and dangers of your life, and beyond your own death. And the music's great too!

WHY YOUR MONEY IS NEEDED
We want to get you involved, join in the fun, become part of Deus Ex Machina 2, and help us fund the following vital elements.
- We need £24,500 to perfect the user-options, gameplay and scoring with your help, before we release the final PC and Mac versions.
- £23,000 to complete the prototypes for the iOS and Android mobile versions.
- £8,500 to customize and personalize the opening and closing sequences for all versions with the names and images of our Kickstarter backers.
- £4,500 to remix the ultimate in-your-head soundtrack for all versions.
- And of course we'll need to pay Kickstarter, and some fees, and some minimal packaging costs for your lovely rewards, around £3,500.
So, OUR GOAL to achieve all of that is to raise £64,000 with your help.
STRETCH GOALS beyond £64,000
We want to make the game as mind-blowing as we can, so a virtual reality version is high on our target list. We'll produce Deus Ex Machina 2 The Director's Cut, for the Oculus Rift virtual reality headset if you can help us hit this stretch goal.
Our aim is to reach out and entertain people all over the planet, which is why we have already translated the game from English into Catalan, Chinese, Czech, Danish, Dutch, French, German, Greek, Hungarian, Italian, Japanese, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Swedish and Welsh. If we can achieve this stretch goal then as well as the 19 languages already built in to the game, we'll invest this additional backing to add another 10 translations to cover the rest of the game-playing planet.
If we hit double our target we'll celebrate by sending every Kickstarter backer a code to download Deus Ex Machina 2 for your choice of iOS or Android format, on the day of publication, no matter how little or how much you have pledged. And we'll stop planning and get ready to start shooting Deus Ex Machina: The Movie, by Anthony and Nicola Caulfield (producers of movies on "War Of The Worlds", "Sonic The Hedgehog", and the history of video gaming documentary "From Bedrooms To Billions"). And of course every funder will receive a code to download their copy of the finished movie.

Risks and challenges
All human activity involves risks and challenges, and games development is no exception. Developers can run out of time, producers can run out of money, key personnel can run out the door to join the circus, early ambitions can turn out to be impractical, and there's the situation where everything goes to plan but the plan stinks.
Well, I don't think we're going to run out of time, because all the hard slog has been completed and we're now into perfection phase. I don't think we're going to run out of money, with your help, because the development, the music, the translations and the artwork are all paid for, and this funding is about knocking everything into shape. And our team is stable, experienced and besides we've already joined the circus.
Since I started the first ever video games company in the UK, my team has never failed to deliver on time every time. This time it's no different and I believe the risk of failing to complete the project is very low indeed. If I happen to drop dead, go mad or disappear, then my colleagues will take over seamlessly.
Essentially, this is the game I have wanted to make since 1983, ever since I ran up against the technical limitations to my future-vision first time round. All I had to do was wait 30 years for the technology to catch up, and for Kickstarter to put me in touch with you. I want to make this game not for myself, but for all of us. So, maybe the only real risk for you to consider is that Deus Ex Machina 2 stinks.
Right at the start, thirty years ago, I took the risk of defying the norms and busting the templates of conventional gaming, by producing Deus Ex Machina as an interactive movie, played in real time to a perfectly synchronized rock music soundtrack. And now I pledge to do everything I can to turn that original vision into reality at last.

The final opening credits and end credits will not be in place, and neither will the final weighting of the scoring system and some audio alternatives. That's because we'll still be implementing the final version depending on your votes.
At £15 you receive all the listed rewards plus the final release version of DEUS EX MACHINA 2 for your choice of format: PC (August 2013), Mac (August 2013), iOS (November 2013) or Android (November 2013). We also really want to add Oculus Rift to that choice (earliest August 2013, latest November 2013), but we have to hit our first stretch goal to do that. Yes. There will be no DRM restrictions on Deus Ex Machina 2. We do not shackle our titles with Digital Rights Management (DRM) for the following reasons:
We trust you, our backers and our players, not to pirate Deus Ex Machina 2. DRM does not stop the illegal use of files, it just adds hassle for paying players. We do not want to waste our money and our backers' money on DRM costs. DRM-free content will play on tomorrow's platforms as well as today's. DRM would fundamentally change who is in control of Deus Ex Machina 2, and we want to share that control with you.

PRELUDE: make choices that will affect the whole of your life, before you navigate your roller-coaster journey through your own existence. You may encounter, touch, enjoy and exploit all the good things in your life. Or you may avoid, reject, overcome and defeat all the bad things in your life. Or to hell with the rules ... you may chose to do the opposite!
FERTLIZER: outwit the rival sperms and their comedy football formation tactics to fertilize that tempting egg.
BIRTH: navigate the pulsing slalem to the outside world and dodge the squid-cam spy probes of the Defect Police.
INFANCY: learn to crawl, stand, balance, walk, run and jump your way through your earliest experiences, as forces more powerful than you try to control your mind and condition your behaviour.
SCHOOL: run your own race and resist all the propaganda to obey, as the teacher from hell force-feeds you the rules of the institution.
ADOLESCENCE: battle those sprouting hairs and erupting zits, and navigate a hormone-fuelled pathway of teen-dreams.
LOVE: accept those tempting lips and get jiggy aboard that yellow submarine. You know you want to.
BETRAYAL: reject the spotlight of publicity and manipulate your privacy shell through the catwalk, because the war-mongers have plans for you.
SOLDIER: this is no place for heros. Run, dodge and flee the urban battlefield to survive.
CRIPPLE: your body lies shattered in a nightmare hospital, but your mind is free to navigate and heal.
WAR CRIMES: face your trial and evade entrapment in the courtroom of your worst nightmare.
DANCE: send in the clones and have a ball, as you party the night away in the ultimate club scene.
GUILT: your pathway is through the heart of the global trading world, where every investment you make will affect the lives of millions.
POWER: the lonliest road of all to navigate, with a supercity under your control, but is there anyone left to command?
DECLINE: now you battle the enemy within, through your own veins and arteries, hunted by white killer cells as you try and bust the blood clots of a massive heart attack.
DANGER: a race against time, with your brain under attack and its neural pathways acting like a rogue pinball machine.
OLD AGE: your geriatric home looks like a comedy clockwork hallucination, and every time you pop a pill or swap your eyeware your world mutates into something even weirder.
SENILITY: your pathway is through a dreamscape of false memories and real events from your incredibly long life. Can you even walk unaided?
WONDER: but hey ... that futuristic buggy provides a mean ride towards the ultimate portal.
DEATH: well, what did you expect ... multiple endings?! We all come to it, and it's nearly game over.
TRANSFIGURATION: except for one final surprise, involving a wheelchair, some wings, an entire morphing planet and a free ride home.
