About this project
Who doesn't like to watch movies? Not many. Most of us love movies of all types; from action to romance and from comedic to dramatic, our civilization loves movies to the core. It's one of the world's largest forms of entertainment and with all the troubles we all face, some worse than others, we need entertainment - we need that brief escape from reality...
What Is Movie Nights?
Movie nights is about thre... five, not three, friends that come together every week at some point in time and watch a film of their choosing. This gathering not only brings all their relationships closer, they also begin to analyze themselves just as they analyze their movies. They come to understand one another and themselves as life keeps throwing lemons at them.
Movies aren't the only thing that this show is about. In fact, due to copyright laws, we won't be showing you any movies in the show at all. The movie is just a general objective for most of the episodes. Our characters will be facing relationship problems, financial problems, crime and other problems we face in our current society... only it's seen as comedic and will sometimes have more than ridiculous results like Jared ending up in the hospital for 3 weeks... again!
Our aim is to make Movie Nights more than just another web-series. We're trying to take our own crazy, #$*@ up lives and put it on paper and get you all to laugh and if you're laughing and enjoying the show, then we've done our job.
Meet The Characters
We have 5 main characters mapped out thus far. Jared, Kelsey, Ryan, Amber and Luke. we have several other characters as well within the episodes but you'll meet them in due time. These 5 are great friends and even though they have personalities that don't exactly match, they seem to get along quite well considering the fact that Kelsey may have eaten paint chips as a kid and Luke was obviously dropped as a baby... several times.
Our main character Jared, is one of those people who's become a rather large fan of movies. He's a walking IMDb and sometimes this type of knowledge gets him into trouble - nobody likes a know-it-all. Jared has only had a single spot of romance in his life and he's just lost it which starts this show off in the direction of sorrow and self pity. He'll recover and become that eligible bachelor that every man strives to be... kinda.
Kelsey is our sporty, eccentric girl who's always wanting to do something. She's very upbeat, competitive and happy but she ends up saying and doing the craziest things... and we do mean crazy. Can't hold a relationship to save her life... don't know why exactly.
Next is Ryan and he's very mello and laid back. I believe Martin describes him in the video as a "go with the flow" type of person. He is a very friendly guy and is always looking for an opportunity to lend a helping hand when he can to anyone and sometimes he ends up inviting people, or things, into their lives who in turn cause issues.
Amber is a sarcastic, witty female who likes to get things done. She may not be always pleasant about it but at least she brings results. She plans and plots making her a dangerous person to get as an enemy. Amber is neither described as a pessimist or optimist but more as a realist as she likes to face challenges head on. Amber can be seen being more competitive than Kelsey.
Luke is our remaining main character. He is in a happy relationship with Amber. Luke is viewed as an optimist and even "happy-go-lucky". He never gets upset and this may be due to him forgetting things all the time... he doesn't seem to have a good memory but the man is good with money but not necessarily numbers. Unfortunately as many problems he's able to solve, he creates just as many.
Now that you know the cast, time to meet the crew. Movie Nights is created by Martin Hooie. He is from Knoxville, TN and is a headstrong writer and editor. Martin studied film and television at both Pellissippi State, a community college located in Knoxville, and Middle Tennessee State University, which is located in Murfreesboro, TN. Both institutions helped him hone his skills as a writer and an editor. He also had the opportunity of interning at a local PBS station learning how they make and create television there. Now he wishes to bring his storytelling skills to the YouTube community with the help of his friend DuWayne Sterling.
DuWayne went to the same colleges as Martin. DuWayne excelled more in the production phase learning skills as a director and cinematographer. DuWayne is also a writer for Movie Nights, helping to drive the season(s) along. DuWayne is also the Producer for Movie Nights providing quite a bit of equipment for their productions (It's so weird talking about yourself in the third person). He has also worked at both Jewelry Television and for a local news station WVLT-TV on Rivalry Thursdays. Together, they've founded SiXcal Productions and with your help, we're going to make these productions right!
What The Funding Is Used For
As many of you may well know, creating television shows and feature length movies can become astronomically expensive. To make the new Batman movie (The Dark Knight Rises - which was an excellent film. It should win a Nobel Peace Prize), it had an estimated budget of $250 million. We aren't creating a movie of that caliber by far but you can see that what we're asking for looks like pennies to big budget studios. What they're paying for are staff, talent, locations, insurance, and equipment. Even we as a small-time production company cannot forgo those costs legitimately and that's why we're calling upon the Kickstarter community.
We don't have enough money to even rent the equipment we need as our meager jobs pay us near or at minimum wages. The money this community provides us will go towards attaining proper studio lights, better audio equipment, access to more lenses, and location fees. We've estimated this to suffice for production costs with prices at the bare minimum. The more funding we get beyond our goal will ensure higher quality productions making it that much better of a show for you, the viewers. In retrospect, $6,000 isn't much and we hope that this community will lend their financial powers to help us achieve our goals of entertaining the world.
Why A Webseries?
Webseries are practically new to the world and thanks to YouTube, independent storytellers can now make their own shows and share it to the world. It's so close to being like real television because you can even put commercials in your programming. We wish to explore webseries, being a somewhat "new" concept, in comparison to shorts, skits and how to's. Being something new, this can turn into a trend and even a major form of entertainment and we want to be right there when everyone realizes that they can get proper entertainment on YouTube, or other free online video sources, rather than just cable television or major network tv. It's really starting to catch on as gaming consoles are used to watch YouTube on their tvs and smart phones and tablets have stands so you can watch YouTube and Netflix on the go.
How Can You Help?
Please donate what you can. If time is money, the reverse is the same. The more money we receive, the more time we save. We don't wish to cut corners on this and end up giving the world a bad product. If the goal has been reached or exceeded and the deadline is not... dead... then continue to donate! Oh and by the way, we finally found out which side the donations are going to be on! --------This Side------->
