What is a Grip Clip?
A Grip Clip is a piece of soft plastic that can slide onto your glasses and hold a pencil, pen, or other similarly sized object.
Whether your glasses are on your head, hanging on your shirt, or actually on your face, a Grip Clip turns your glasses into a useful tool.
Will it Grip?
After extensive testing in our secret laboratory, we have found that the Grip Clip can successfully hold many different sizes and shapes of objects. We set out to hold a pencil, but have been constantly surprised at what it will hold! It's a tough little clip.
Some of the things we have successfully gripped are:
- Large Wacom® Stylus
- Adonit Jot® Stylus
- Laser pointers
- Pen Lights
- Bic® Lighters
- Other Grip Clips
- even an iPhone (briefly)
- and much more
How is a Grip Clip is Made?
We have been designing our parts in Solidworks, 3D printing molds on a ProJet 1000, and pouring them up in colored silicone.
This is a great way to prototype and to get working models that look almost identical to production quality products. However, it is a costly and inefficient way to produce things en masse.
We have a 2 part, 6-cavity mold that takes 24 hours to cure. Needless to say, this is too slow for mass production. To solve this problem, we need to have a machined mold created. This will allow us to create Grip Clips at a low cost and high volume, in order to get them to you fast. We are doing this campaign to raise money for machined tooling and raw materials to be able to produce Grip Clips by injection molding. This is a much faster, cost effective way to produce plastic goods and will allow us to get you a pack of Grip Clips at a low price.
What's in it for you? Rewards.
We have spent the last few months creating the Grip Clip and we want to bring that to you!
As rewards for funding our project, we will give you a pack of Grip Clips and maybe even some Grip Clip swag. If you really want to help make this happen check out our Silver, Gold, and Platinum Sponsor levels!

Risks and challenges
We have completed all of the research and design requirements of the Grip Clip. We have spoken to manufacturers and have gotten quotes on tooling and materials.
We will buy the tooling and begin manufacturing as soon as funding is reached. From that point it will be on to injection molding the required number of Clips and sending them to you!
We have connections in the manufacturing world and feel that this project will go smoothly once we can afford to buy the tooling!
We are very excited with this project and want to see it in the world. Because of this we are very confident in being able to get a Grip Clip on your glasses by the summer months.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
It should. We successfully attached Grip Clips to all of our sunglasses, including a pair of Ray-Ban Wayfarers. Those were the thickest glasses we had (almost .5"), and the Grip Clip was working perfectly.
