About this project
Our ingenious button uses a fingerprint sensor to recognize which part of your hand you are using when touching it. This way you can assign different functions to it. Over 20 different functions on one button simultaneously. Your hand becomes a human remote control.
A concept that is very easy to remember – it’s all about the structure: Control one app or device per finger and use similar triggers for similar finger parts!
Use it as a single button, wear it around your wrist, or clip or glue it anywhere.
It‘s simple, it‘s fun - and kind of magic too!
With the clip mechanism you can attach your tapdo button to your clothes, other wristbands, your belt, or anywhere else!

These are realistic goals, but we cannot guarantee you that we are able to add all the functions shown above on all platforms and regions.
Your fingerprints are unique. Not only for your fingertips, but for every part of your hand. Tapdo recognizes which part of your hand you are using to tap it.
In this way you can assign different functions that will be triggered when tapping your tapdo with those specific finger parts. For example, you can control your Philips Hue lights with just one tap.
Isn’t it hard to remember which part of your fingers triggers which action?
Not at all! It’s all about the structure. Use one app per finger and similar types of actions for similar finger parts.

Fingerprint processing is partly done by tapdo and partly by the smartphone. No data related to your fingerprints is transferred through the internet or stored in the cloud. All data that needs to be stored for our algorithms to work is encrypted strongly.

The basic development of tapdo is finished and we are ready to produce. We presented our working prototypes to people around the world at CES in Las Vegas (Consumer Electronics Show), MWC in Barcelona (Mobile World Congress), WTS in London (Wearable Technology Show) and CeBIT in Hannover. Our main goal now is to raise money in order to start with our mass production of tapdo. We need a minimum quantity of pre-orders to be able to kick off production. Therefore we need your help to realize our project and to make our tapdos available for everyone.
Risks and challenges
As a team with a scientific background in computer science, human computer interaction, physics and design we were able to engineer several functional and working prototypes. To bring the product to market we decided to work with highly skilled and experienced partners. The industrial design of tapdo was made by the people from NR21 who have designed numerous award winning electronic products for different companies including Sennheiser and Vodafone. The mechanical engineering and design for manufacture of the plastic parts is made by the guys from ONYX, who have decades of experience in the field. The electrical engineers from af inventions greatly helped us to build reliable and manufacturable PCBs from our first ideas. Additionally, during the development of tapdo we have always been in close contact with manufacturers and component suppliers. We believe that with the help and experience of our partners we could optimize the design and reduce the manufacturing risks of tapdo.
Nevertheless hardware projects are always hard. It’s hard to predict the challenges related to the mass production of a brand new product. There could be unexpected events on the production line or some minor yet important product enhancements to be done that could delay the production. Even though we have scheduled the production according to the lead times of all components, material and component shortages are not fully in our control and could also cause delays. With our partners we are on track to minimize these risks and therefore we believe to communicate a realistic timetable.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
