Each issue is 144 pages, filled with content and printed by exceptional craftsmen from Verona, on high-quality paper.
We are working to give you a gem to collect and cherish!
And we hope you want to help us make it possible.
Why Caffè Italia?
Italy is rich in biodiversity, in human capital, history, art, food, and much more, and the country appeals to many of us. Yet many stories are left untold.
Caffè Italia captures and distils the essence beyond the already beautiful surface and reveals the "minor stories of greater importance. We will highlight the extraordinary in the ordinary, what you might not have seen or heard about, we will look up hidden treasures and meet with people.
How is Caffè Italia?
In the number one issue, you will find six longer photographic stories and some shorter: we talk about very different topics; from music to nature, to places, craftsmen, food, culture, art, history..
Help us succeed in sharing beautiful stories!
What today is often called "Bar" in Italy was once called "Caffè" (and still is sometimes), and we think of Caffè Italia as a Caffè "on paper", welcoming who wants to sit down and enjoy a good story.
With three years of preparation and a lot of experienced people behind, Caffè Italia is a team-work of art and a labour of love.
The issue number one of Caffè Italia is almost ready to print! It will be printed by Trifolio srl, a small and extraordinary printer in Verona who mainly prints photographic- or art books for galleries worldwide: Trifolio is in itself a genuine italian story of excellence.
Give us the chance to share the stories in "il numero uno" with you. By helping us now we will have the possibility to get off the ground and start working on the number two issue, followed by number three and four.
With your help we will also be able to develop our website even better, www.caffeitalia.se, were we prepare to share other stories with you.
Who is behind Caffè Italia?
Here I am, Johanna Ekmark, photographer, the contentmaker behind Caffè Italia. I was born in Sweden but I was raised in Italy, in Maremma, Tuscany. In the 1980'ies, young woman, I settled as a farmer on the Emilian hillside and for eleven years I grew tomatoes, kept chickens in the wild and nurtured a penchant for marmelade production. This was before I rearranged my life as a photographer, in the mid 1990's, and chose Milano as my base. From then on I have spent the last 20 years photographing Italy for international magazines, travelling around this country for reportages about people, places, food, design, and so much more.
With me I have two great swedish designers, Anders Lierud and Glen Ekelund,
and our exceptional printers in Verona: Trifolio, with Alberto, Nadia & Massimo in picture.
so as my friend, pastry chef and philosopher Corrado Assenza in Noto, Sicily, an eternal source of wisdom for Caffè Italia; I communicate with him about the most diverse of topics; nature, history, places, taste, bees...
and there are many other collaborators who have believed in this project and contributed with their precious know-how for the number one issue.

Risks and challenges
The risks are few, as the first issue is almost completed. The challenges are the ones that come with a totally independent printed publication (no advertising or sponsor) : costs of printing and all the preparatory work in photography, design, and texts, spedition, but most of it is done! We need you to give us a hand on the finishing line! To spread the word.
If we succeed we will be able to give you a copy very shortly.
