About

Mulogo and His Quintuple of Trouble is a live-action short film in the fantasy genre directed and written by Martin Reese. The film is about Mulogo, a wizard’s young apprentice. He gets into trouble when, in the wizard's absence, he lets his curiosity get the better of him and recites a spell from a forbidden book of magic. The spell conjures a powerful, five-headed dragon. Mulogo has to rely on his wits to defeat the dragon.

Mulogo and His Quintuple of Trouble tells of one the adventures of a young boy from an alternate version of the ancient African kingdom of Kush as he learns to be a master wizard in a land across the Great Sea called Zameria. It is based on the original screenplay by Martin Reese which was a quarterfinalist in the 2014 Bluecat Screenplay Competition. The screenplay's strong showing in the competition proved to us that we had a strong story which is the prerequisite for having a strong film. We hope that this short film project will lead to the development of the feature length film version

We love fantasy stories with their subsequent film adaptions that feature young heroes like Harry Potter and Percy Jackson. These otherwise great stories tend to feature main characters that are not reflective of the diverse society in which we live. We believe that all children, no matter their cultural background, need heroes. Seeing characters that they can relate to triumph over great obstacles can inspire them to believe that they too can triumph over what they see as great obstacles in their own lives. Understanding the positive impacts this can have drives us to do our part to increase diversity within the fantasy genre while telling a story that has universal appeal. The film is also family-friendly which is something that many audiences are clamoring for.

The entire story happens in a castle chamber. Since there aren't a lot of castles in Cleveland, Ohio and we don't have the means to fly to Europe we determined that the best approach would be to build the castle chamber digitally. We will shoot the actors against a green screen. We plan to shoot the film at Creative House Studios which is the largest permanent green screen studio sound stage in the state of Ohio. Creative House Studios also has the capability of providing an experienced production crew for audio, video and lighting.

We have a team of visual effects artists who are more than capable of providing the quality of work that will help make Mulogo and His Quintuple of Trouble a visually stunning film.

As you can see from our page there has been a lot of work started as evidenced by us having a complete cast and the start of pre-production. This is further evidence of the team's belief and enthusiasm for the project, but there is a lot more work to do and it costs money. Your donations will be used for such things as compensating the cast, hiring the film crew, renting out the studio for filming, providing visual effects including 3-D modeling and animation, buying props, making costumes, and providing craft services

Your generous donations will have a very positive effect on what we are able to film. We appreciate anything you are able to give. After the film is completed we intend to submit to a number of film festivals such as the 2015 San Diego Film Festival, the 2015 Chicago International Children's Film Festival, the 2015 Greater Cleveland Urban Film Festival as well as the 2016 Cleveland International Film Festival.

Risks and challenges

There are risks and challenges with any independent film especially one that is dependent on special visual effects. The server that contains the files for the film could crash; actors could drop out; there could be equipment problems on the set; a vendor could fail to deliver needed materials. We are confident that we will be prepared with contingency plans if problems occur. The key for any successful project is proper planning during the pre-production process.
