Patobox is an adventure/fighting game for Windows, Mac and PSVita inspired by the “Punch-Out!!” series, taking place in the building of a corrupt corporation named Deathflock.
You play as Patobox, a boxing champion with a special distinction of having a duck’s head on a man’s body. He has been betrayed by members of Deathflock, the same company that has been sponsoring him during his career. Patobox will find retribution by hunting down Deathflock’s henchmen while discovering the dark secrets the company hides and the truth behind his treason one fight at a time.
The world of Pato Box is full of mysteries and strange characters that will make you wonder if everything is just a dream. Learn more about the world just as if you were reading a graphic novel! Pato box is made for people that love a mystery and want to play and experience something different.
A game that will test the player’s reflexes and change their perception between what is real and what is not.
The visual art style is based on graphic novels and comics. We took the elements and characteristics that make comic books so unique and recognizable and applied them into the game. Using them for different purposes both in illustration and menus to tell the story and play the game. Some of them are the cinematic and introductions presented to the player as comic strips. You will find many other elements used in comic books like the classic dialogue balloons for both the characters and the narrator.
To achieve a darker and more serious effect we are using only black and white as our color palette which gave us new challenges and fresh ideas while we designed the game. The story being told in black and white gives personality to the characters and a sad / mysterious ambience within the game. This characteristic also makes more interesting spaces by making them darker because of the attention given to the volume and shadows of the objects. A lot of inspiration is being taken by artists such as Frank Miller.
Every sprite used for both npcs and decorations are hand made, copying the stroke and the aesthetics from artists dedicated to the graphic novel art form so that you get the intensity only compared to a original batman comic but with a toonish and absurd touch. We want you to see every trace with an organic signature so it feels more alive and authentic.
Original artwork fights mixed with a 3D world environment that feels just as if you were inside a comic book.
Interactive dialogues. Learn more about Deathflock and Patobox by talking to members of the organization and reveal their dark secrets, what is Deathflock hiding and what it means to our hero Patobox?
Remember that not everyone inside the building is against you! Pato Box is a boxing champion and some people will be glad to help a famous duck like you!
While you explore the world of Pato Box in unique areas with traps and minigames, a story filled with mystery, flutter and tension will unfold.
The world will test your boxing abilites as well as you try to open your path by punching everything in your path. Patobox is the best at what he does but what he does is using his fists!
Using boxing techniques find and fight 7 different bosses with unique abilities and mechanics. Learn everything about those bosses before you engage them by exploring Deathflock’s headquarters and get ready for really challenging fights that will test your reflexes and abilities as a boxing duck!
Hidden collectables to expand the story. Reveal the darkest secrets of the game by reading special documents with more information about the background of the members of Deathflock and even Patobox himself!
While you explore Deathflock’s headquarters you will find small tokens that resemble Patobox. After collecting enough tokens you will unlock different furniture for Patobox’s room, try to find them all and you will unlock a special surprise!
An original and immersive soundtrack created by Abuguet Studio. Pato Box’s music takes inspiration on other artists like Kavinsky and other soundtracks like Drive and Hotline Miami. Pato Box's music uses 80’s synthesizers and a mix of Tecnho, Synthpop and Progressive House Music to give a retro but at the same time modern feeling to the game.
Pato Box has a strong reminiscence to Super Punch-Out!! gameplay, intense fights with interesting characters and the need to replay the fights until you get the correct attack patterns of the enemies. However, the similarities end there: Pato Box proposes exploration as a fundamental part of the gameplay between fights. In these sections, you will have to find your way through Deathflock's headquarters while solving complex puzzles and mini games. During the whole game you will control Pato Box from a third person perspective, the only difference between exploration and combat is that in the earlier you will be able to move Pato Box through 3D environment.
- Dodge, block and perform lower or upper attacks to defeat your enemies.
- Be aware of your enemy moves to detect cues of their next attack.
- Enemies with different attack patterns and mechanics to defeat them.
Not all enemies will be regular boxing matches. Every member of Deathflock will bring his unique set of skills to the table and is up to you to figure out how to beat them in your search for the truth! For example, Pizzicanatra is a chef that will try to put you in his soup if you don’t defeat him, in the fight you will have to pick up different ingredients and cook a dish before you can punch him, this will require to hone your reflexes since he will be still attacking you will you try to lure him into the soup!
- Hunt down Deathflock's henchmen trough 3D environments.
- Find information about the organization and its members as well as clues to discover the truth behind the treason on Patobox.
- Puzzles and mini games to progress through Deathflock's headquarters.
- Interactive dialogues.
Community - We chose Kickstarter because of the great community that revolves around the platform. We know that backers become in one way or another our teammates in the project, providing feeback, ideas and ways to improve the game that couldn't been discovered without their aid. We want you to help us create the best possible game.
We are Bromio, a small indie developer group from Puebla, México. We've been making interactive experiences for the past 3 years (mobile games, mobile apps, educational games and interactive contents for museums) in order to fund the development of our own games. We've been working in Pato Box for the last 8 months (with a 2 month break to complete contractor work) and want to finish the whole game by October 2017, however, to achieve this goal we need financial support to focus on the development of the game for the next 8 months. The support will allow us to focus solely in the development of Pato Box and don't have to worry about completing contractor work to pay the bills.

Risks and challenges
We've been working in Pato Box for about half a year now, we've defined the general gameplay, story, character outline and the overall feeling of the game (which you can experience in the demo), however, we want to include your opinion in the development, so the only risk we can foresee right now is the delay of the release date to improve the game with the feedback of the Kickstarter supporters.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
