Welcome to FIRE - SALT - SLIME!, an 80 page middle-grade original graphic novel written by C. A. Preece. This C. A.’s second comic after his debut creator-owned graphic novel CheMystery, published in 2017 by ThunderStone Books. This graphic novel will feature art by illustrator Kelly Krill, and Timothy Taylor. Both Kelly and Timothy are great people, funny, and have an artistic style perfect for educational comics. See more in the bio section.
FIRE - SALT - SLIME! is a 3 amazing science comics bound into one. Each comic focuses on a different scientific exploration:
FIRE - Follow Richie and Marquita as they explore their fascination with fire! Richie becomes curious about the flame in a candle. The colors, the heat, the smell. Why is it doing all this? Marquita helps her younger foster-brother set up experiments to figure it out.
SALT - Chris explores the wonderful world of salts! It starts with a simple “salt assault” to his sister Kelly. Chris is amazed that the salt seemingly disappears in water, which sets him off on exploring all sorts of properties of salts and comparing them to molecules.
SLIME! - What should you do when you have a house full of kids? Buy them all packs of SLIME! and let them play. Mattie and her cousins have a sleep over and make all sorts of slime. Join their adventure as they make Borax slime, Thermochromic slime, Glitter slime, Magnetic slime, Edible JELL-O slime, and Fiber slime! Also, there’s a wild surprise at the end that I’m not going to spoil for you.
STRETCH GOALS ARE PLANNED AND WILL BE ANNOUNCED ONCE THE INITIAL GOAL IS CLOSE TO BEING REACHED. :D

ABOUT THE CREATORS
C. A. PREECE:
Writer of CheMystery, A high school teacher of integrated science and chemistry in Berea, KY, Ph.D. candidate at the University of Kentucky in S.T.E.M. Education, the Executive Director of S.T.E.M. Curiosity non-profit, and Owner of AtomicUniverse.org.
My first graphic novel, CheMystery, uses the superhero genre to explore chemistry. Two kids, Suzy and Diego, are classically exposed to radiation and gaining superpowers that allow them to do fantastical things, like see across the electromagnetic spectrum, fly, see at the atomic level, and MORE! Suzy and Diego are pushed to their limits to learn their powers to save an English town from radiation poisoning and an electrical outage.
Personally, my goal is to make educational science comics to engage kids in our wonderful world through creativity and curiosity. My Ph.D. research in S.T.E.M. education at the University of Kentucky focuses on how to create the most effective educational comics and using them in classrooms. Join me on my journey!

Risks and challenges
C. A., Kelly, and Timothy are professionals with experience in making tough deadlines. The best news -- Salt has already been written and mostly drawn! All that remains is to finish a few pages for Fire and Slime! to prepare it for actual physical printing. However, unavoidable mishaps, government shutdowns, global chaos, or the dead rising could throw us off schedule, and we will keep you, Kickstarter backers, updated if we do encounter any delays. Kelly, Timothy, and I are working very hard to bring this comic to life to help kids learn and support teachers.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
