My "Accidental Entrepreneur" Story
Hi, I'm Ashley! I'm a full-time business process data analyst, fitness enthusiast, and dog mom living here in Minneapolis. Minny Spoons started when my love for helping others merged with my love for nut butters. I had the opportunity of a lifetime to travel to the Dominican Republic with The Her Initiative to empower women through clean water and hygiene education. I started a fundraiser to raise money for the trip and thanked my supporters the best way I know how: through food.
Every donation received a hand-crafted flavored cashew butter and to my surprise the response I received back was overwhelmingly positive. After realizing how much I enjoyed making these cashew butters a short while later Minny Spoons & Co was born!
Why Cashew Butter?
From the beginning I've only used a few ingredients in each jar of nut butter. My goal is to include simple wholesome ingredients that everyone can feel good about. But don't confuse simple with boring - these cashew butters are anything but! Many people tell me they sneak spoonfuls straight from the jar because it's just so dang good! I'm also making peanut butter energy bites that are equally addicting and a great snack to take on the go!
Cashew butter provides significant amounts of heart-healthy fats, essential amino acids and magnesium (helps to keep your body healthy and fit!). Its protein to carbohydrate ratio makes it a go-to option if you're on a low-carbohydrate, high-protein diet, while also containing less fat and sugar than peanut butter!
I'm here on Kickstarter because I want to grow this business. Right now I'm making products after work on weeknights, and popping up at events on the weekends. I'd like to make more products, and also to ship across the country, but in order to take the next step I need to:
1. Become licensed by the state
2. Move production into a commercial kitchen
3. Purchase a professional grade jar sealer
4. Bulk order of ingredients, jars, lids, and labels
These steps require a level of investment I'm unable to afford at this point, which is why I'm seeking community support to get there. Some people have asked why I don't try to seek out investors, and quite honestly I love running this business on my own because that way I can retain control over what I'm doing and I'd love to keep it that way.
Why Should You Care?
Let's face it, who doesn't love a good nut butter in their life? They provide a simple and clean form of energy with lots of healthy fats to go along with a great taste. You can simply add it to a breakfast bowl or oatmeal, slather it up on your favorite fruit, or simply eat it straight from the jar! It helps to provide a way to brighten up your morning, to kick you into high gear before your workout, or a quick pick me up in the afternoon when you feel the afternoon nap urge on high.

What's In It For You?
Well to start you'll receive my everlasting gratitude for supporting my project! Chances are though you're here to try some product, which is why I'm planning to make and ship sample packs of my products as perks, as well as a few other merchandise items and even an adult coloring page. I'm also going to include a special new flavor to a limited number of backers!

I hope you'll consider making a pledge, or even simply sharing this campaign with a friend. This journey has only been made possible through the wonderful support from people like you, and I hope that you're able to enjoy some of my cashew butter or energy bites soon.
The Her Initiative
"Clean water doesn’t just keep people healthy. It gives them opportunity. It allows them to be trained and educated and empowered. It gives them a space to create a community that is thriving and where a team of 15 women can change their community’s future!" - Founder, Kayla Fruchtman
A portion of all our profits go to “The Her Initiative” an organization that is empowering women in developing countries through clean water and health & hygiene education. Kickstarter rules do not allow any of the money pledged from this campaign to be donated though, and all the funds that are pledged will be spent on this project. After I move in to a commercial kitchen, and fulfill all the Kickstarter orders, I will then be donating a portion of each sale to this non-profit.
You can learn more about them on their official website.
Risks and challenges
As with all businesses there are lots of risks and challenges associated with taking steps to grow. Since I've already been making my products for the past several months I can say with confidence that I'll be able to produce and ship whatever amount is requested through this campaign. If there's an overwhelmingly positive response I also have a few helpers who have offered their energy ball rolling services for a modest fee ;)Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
