I've been an artist my entire life - mostly pen and ink and printmaking - and in the last couple of years I have really gotten absorbed into the hobby ( -cough- addiction ) of fountain pens. The way they feel on paper is second to none. I'm a high school art teacher, and my students have noticed the pens I use at school. I've been lucky enough to be able to give several pens to students, but I can't give away more pens purchased at retail prices on a teacher's salary. I've learned that wood turners can make fountain pens on their wood lathes, and as an artist this idea seemed incredible to me. I could make my own fountain pens!
I knew I had to try it, so I've sold the majority of my fountain pen collection to fund my very own pen making studio. Even with the money I earned selling off my collection, I still need more items: taps and dies, holders for the lathe, tool rests, nibs, clips, converters, and blanks. My goal is to be able to fashion and sell full custom, kitless fountain pens within the next 6 months - and with each pen ordered, a twin and a bottle of ink will be given to a deserving high school student. Anything that will encourage students to write more will be of huge benefit to them for college and the professional world that awaits them.
