What We’re Doing
We’re determined to create a full body of work that allows us to explore and interact with different communities through jazz and film.
This was my first taste of what the Antoine Roney Trio does on a regular basis. Almost always self-funded and on a tight budget, the trio utilizes their touring opportunities to venture and connect with different localities all over the world.
In recent years, Antoine Roney has traveled through various parts of West Africa where he had the rare opportunity to collaborate and perform with many accomplished local musicians.
It was a truly unique experience, unfortunately none of these initial explorations were ever documented. In 2009, for the first time, the trio captured on video, their stay in Ghana. They obtained some great footage but due to a lack of funds, they were unable to hire a professional camera and sound crew.
In July 2012 The Antoine Roney Trio was scheduled to play in Santa Fe New Mexico. Always thinking outside the box, Antoine reached out to me and explained his vision of filming live Jazz music on the dunes of the white sands desert.
With a little extra help this time around, we were able to capture exactly that. We camped out for a day and dealt with New Mexico’s first taste of rain that arrived in the form of a powerful sand storm.
It was an amazing experience that Antoine captures perfectly in his music. It made me realize there is more to Jazz than just performing in front of an audience. Its storytelling expressed through time and emotion.
With the help of you and Kickstarter we can, not only finish the completion of The Greeting but we can complete a full documentary that will take place this December in Benin Africa. The completed film and its accompanying sound recordings will be made available for historical and educational lectures and for jazz and music education in the US and around the world.

Risks and challenges
The biggest risk and or challenge IS the completion of this project. Making a film is extremely difficult; it requires time, money and skill. It is also a great learning experience. Having made a number of films in the past, I am aware of the dedication needed to see this project through to its entirety.
