Darkmoor is a game set in a self-deprecating fantasy universe, full of action and magic, where anything is possible! Giant apes and huge, colourful pandas train in the art of kung fu in remote monasteries in preparation for the Steel Fists Tournament. Huge robot toys chase one another through different parallel dimensions waging an automated miniatures war. Coins, jewelry and all kind of possible treasures pop out of the monsters you just killed in dungeons created by crazy robot butlers!
This is your starting area. You will discover great places like "Beach Please", "Twin Beaks", "Mountway to Hell" and many more. While you're busy traveling this land of wonders and puns, you'll also get to create what you'll find once you cross those borders! Want to be born in a land where candies are the only currency available? In a quest to turn your parents human again after an evil Guild of Werehorses turned them into wild horses? Once you tell such things to your Guide those become truths about the world you're playing in. It's up to the Guide how to use those truth you build speaking about the world you want Darkmoor to be, but the more you're creative the more you'll have fun during your game sessions.
Darkmoor has been inspired by Moof Games products such as Blackmoor and Maximus. They both play like great old-style Arcade Games with exciting gameplay and colorful graphics. Beat'em-up games lovers will instantly fall in love with Blackmoor and Maximus too for sure.
In Darkmoor combat is pure hyper-cinematic action! You will unleash your “epic-named” special moves while the whole universe stops to watch! Fighting is based on a variety of factors: your character’s stats, the Attack and Defence Dice, customized Special Moves created by each Player, the Symbols that make each Move unique and the various effects they trigger, and Special Weapons and the bonuses they provide. You will even upgrade your moves by describing your cinematic actions— the cooler the better!!
In this fantastic world where the incredible becomes possible and anything can be a source of inspiration or comedy, the important thing is always and only FUN. The game design of Darkmoor maximizes the fun and streamlines every other aspect of the game, generating adventures, enemies and rewards... all in addition to the thousands of ideas offered by the absurd world of Darkmoor itself! In Darkmoor, players are NOT puppets in the hands of the Guide. The Guide trusts them and enjoys the game, telling the story and describing the NPCs’ actions.
Darkmoor is a VERY tongue-in-cheek, humorous game. Anything is possible: PCs literally shine brightly when they level up, they can choose to fail a task on purpose in order to earn more Experience, and they may belong to any race, ethnicity, profession, class and background you can imagine. Best of all, you can combine all of this (and more!) to create absurd and bizarre results! Plus, when you finally kill the Boss, you will be showered with coins and treasure! Seeing is believing!
Darkmoor is TOTALLY customizable. In the 200+ pages, USA letter format book, you'll find just a couple of rules to follow, so the Player can shape his own Races, Classes, Skills, Techniques (Martial or Magic), and Equipment. There will be plenty of examples and suggestions, but they all explain how to create your own original stuff.
But it's not all up to you of course! Here is a little preview of some unique features you'll find in Darkmoor:
Beat the cash out of enemies
Yeah, you read it right: punch them untill you have enough money! Just like traditional arcade games, hit a monster and he'll drop coins. Store them, find the next one, rinse and repeat!
Draw your weapon! And armor. And character.
Everyone loves good artworks and the book we'll be packed with those. But you know what's even better? Funny ones! Your character and equip will look like you draw them yourself: you don't need to be good at it, you just need to have fun with it! Everytime you mention one of the elements in the sketches you drew to describe an action you gain an extra die.
Pretty neat, isn't it?
Level up shining bright
Darkmoor is great for one-shots, sure, but when you'll see how easy levelling up is, you’ll never want to stop... And we mean it! Here you won't stop at 10th, 20th or 250th Level! Oh and remember: you'll be all shiny when you reach a new level, just like good old arcade games.
Meet the almighty Crafters
Once in a while you may need a certain item or a stronger weapon and you'll end up visiting a Crafter. Beware though: they are beyond powerful in their realms! Be prepared for everything when you enter their door...
Backers will receive either their PDF and physical Darkmoor books through DriveThruRPG.
ITALIAN SHIPMENT FARES
We have set italian shipment fares for books to zero. This is not because we have some sort of free magic expeditioner, rather we'll give you the possibility to grab it without additional costs in Lucca Comics & Games this year. If you won't attend the event or prefer to receive it home, we can still ship it but you'll need to add 7€ for the shipment costs. Note that additional items will be shipped after the event and will cost you the amount noted on the reward or add on.
Luca de Marini - Author
When he’s not busy dreaming new settings and incredible adventures, he loves to play Roleplaying Games of any kind, since he was 12. Architect and Engineer, he’s the founder and main Dreamer of Acchiappasogni.org , an indie italian publishing association. He loves anything fantasy and science-fiction related. Designer of various RPGs, like Musha Shugyo RPG, Destino Oscuro, Cielo Cremisi and il Buio di Etherna plus tons of still unpublished stuff.
Davide Quaroni - Artist
Born and grew up in Pavia, Italy, I've always been drawing and despite my scientific formation at school I started an artistic path, leading to the foundation of Acchiappasogni in association with Luca De Marini. Since then I've been working on illustrations for RPG handbooks, including Destino Oscuro, Musha Shugyo and Worlds of Fate. Darkmoor is my chance to explore two worlds i'm in love with: fantasy and crazy humour, let's see if they fit together!
Gilbert Gallo - Author
He's the crazy author of Darkmoor unique setting features (yes, he's the one to blame!). Always chasing his dreams, Gilbert likes to tell stories any way he can. He writes novels, short stories, tabletop rpgs, comics, videogames. His works include the Italian edition of Cyberpunk V3 and Mythos, the Greek Mythological setting.
Francesco Raimondi - Editor
Francesco is triying to improve writing skills of rookie fantasy authors since 2003, eventually making them change job most of the times. They also never sold anything, so he's sure you cannot know their names. In the last two year, he became part of Acchiappasogni, and worked together with them as Concept and Content Editor - and obviously proofreader too - in four books so far. If you support us, Darkmoor will be the fifth!
Annarita Guarnieri - Translator
She has been working as a translator (and writer, when she finds the time) for 36 years. Mother of two grown up girls, she has an adorable two-years-old granddaughter (beware: try calling her "granny” and she’ll kill you!). She's also a Crazy Cat Lady! In the past she translated mostly fantasy and sci-fi novels, and she has always enjoyed it to the hilt; if you've red anything in the genres in the last few decades there's a good chance it was translated by her. Recently she found In Savage Worlds a treasure trove of great, entertaining jobs. She's now very excited to start this new adventure with an original RPG such as Darkmoor.
Edoardo Dalla Via - The Marketing Guy
He started working in the games industry dealing with great names such as D&D, Yu-Gi-Oh, World of Warcraft and many more with duties ranging from translator, editor, playtester, salesman but mostly marketing related stuff. He took his own road as an author and followed a few crowdfunding projects such as Getalive and Enascentia. Guess what ended up doing once again? Yeah, marketing stuff. And he seems quite ready to #FantasyFight too!
Simon Mariott - Moof Games
Grew up in Hong Kong and UK, inspired by games from across the world. He makes mobile games with Kwok Man under the name 'Mooff Games'. He is usually doing art, sound and other game design stuff. Bottom line, they just want to play their own games.
Kwok Man - Moof Games
Born in London and wanted to be a comic artist, at 13 he became a game addicted and learned to make games. Now at Mooff Games he does character design, animation and gameplay coding. With Simon Marriott, he shares a philosophy to make the game they crave that doesn't already exist. He loved the 80's and 90's arcades from Japan and admires the SFII team more than any other dev-team!
Risks and challenges
You'll see "first created" on our kickstarter project count, but we're not new to the crowdfunding world. Acchiappasogni already funded the Musha Shugyo RPG in 2015 (5.069€ collected on a 2.000€ goal) and Edoardo Dalla Via, who follows us in this adventure, was with us there and also followed the Getalive crowdfunding campaign (24.054€ collected on a 22.000€ goal) and the Enascentia Kickstarter (7.280€ collected on a 4.000€ goal).
This is the first time we're trying to publish a game in English from scratch though, so this is our own leap of faith. We hope to see you there cheering for us as we jump!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
