Hi! My name is Megan Mosholder and I am a site-specific installation artist and painter. I make work that references landscape and interior elements such as the piece featured in the video Against the Day, 2012. It reflects Alexander Hall in Savannah, GA in which it was created. I used mason line (which carpenters use to ensure that what they build is square), screw eyes and wood to reference the Savannah Talmadge Memorial Bridge, off-set window, as well as the pipes of the building above and wood floor below. This installation creates an experience by inviting the viewer to walk in, become surrounded by the artwork and contemplate these little building and bridge details that I have emphasized.

Against the Day

As an artist, I want to create artwork that engages all people, regardless of education, culture or age. My installations and paintings are intended to inspire a sense of play, wonder and awe. Through my work, I am asking the participant to slow down and appreciate the uniqueness of space, specifically the small, unnoticed details.

This kickstarter is an attempt to find the support to achieve a large-scale installation as part of my MFA degree during Fall 2012. Until this point, I have worked in small, Megan-sized spaces. This means I have installed all of the work on my own within the span of a week. This is why I need help. My upcoming exhibition will be an attempt to challenge myself artistically and physically by working in a space four-times what I am used to. In order to accomplish this in a timely manner, I need to hire people to help me. More space also means I will also need more supplies in order to achieve my goal, the apogee of my degree time at SCAD, and as a way to launch my work beyond university level.

A Tale of Two Bridges is the title of my exhibition, which will be on display in Savannah, Georgia at Southern Pine located at 616 East 35th Street on Friday, October 26th, 7 – 10pm. My title is derived from my experience working and living in Savannah while attending graduate school at the Savannah College of Art and Design. The Talmadge Memorial Bridge and its shadow bridge or the ruin still in place of skeletal pylons, which towers over our studio building, inspired the work presented in this show. The work I am presenting is a visual inquiry of those pylons and of the both formal and symbolic lines of dialogue that the “two” bridges side by side represent: a dialogue implied but not as often voiced. This site-specific work including drawing, painting, motion media and installation is two-dimensional and three-dimensional, indoor and outdoor, drawing lines between the two in order to connect the “two” bridges and what their presence and absence represents for the city of Savannah and its history, a point of connection at some distance on the horizon.

Thank you all very much for your consideration of support for my project!
