Thank you, thank you, thank you!
We did it! We reached our funding goal! We can hardly believe it, but we surpassed our initial goal last Friday afternoon (5/16) ... with still a full 12 days left in the campaign. Words cannot express the gratitude we feel towards all of those who have supported us to this point. Thank you very, very much for your belief in what we're doing at the Light Factory.
But we're not done yet. The response to, and support of, this campaign has been so strong, that you've emboldened us to reach beyond our initial funding goal. We have set a new "unofficial" funding goal of $30,000.
At this point, I know what you're thinking ... "OK, but what are you going to do with all of that 'extra' money"?
The original goal of this project was to raise enough money to complete the build-out of two new galleries, a darkroom and a digital classroom at our new Plaza Midwood location in Charlotte. The original funding goal of $20,000 was set with those objectives in mind. And we are so very happy that we will be able to complete that work thanks to the generosity of our project backers.
You see, when we sat down to plan this project, we were all a little bit nervous. While we, of course, have a very long to-do list (revitalizing a non-profit arts organization is no small task!), we weren't exactly sure how much of that list we could bite off with our Kickstarter project. Thanks to the tremendous support received so far, we're hoping we can tick a couple more items off of that list.
We pushed our goal (unofficially) to $30,000 with the following objectives in mind:
- The re-launch of our education program has been very successful, and we want to build on that momentum. The additional funding from this project will help us secure an additional classroom within our current location, allowing us to expand our education offerings. Our goal is to build a strong and focused education program that positions us as distinctive among arts organizations in the area, and also continues to stabilize the organization financially.
- We are currently developing a program in partnership with another tenant in the Midwood International and Cultural Center (our new location!) that will offer free summer camps to local children. The additional funding from this project will help offset the costs needed to launch this initiative. With short term facilities needs satisfied - providing much needed operational stability - we are eager to turn our attention to community engagement initiatives like this one.
So, once again, thank you! Thank you for your financial support, your belief in what we are doing, and standing with us as we RE-light the Light Factory.
