Hello Kickstarter! Today we are introducing to you an extraordinary watch-project - the Radar Watch.
The watch design was inspired by cold-war era military equipment.
Radars are commonly used in the military for detecting the presence, direction, distance, and speed of aircraft, ships, and other objects.
This gives the watch a rugged and retro look that suits both men and women.
Its Scandinavian design is reflected in its simplicity and clean lines, while the Swiss engineering is made apperent through the quality of the watch.
All materials were carefully selected to make this watch a timepiece you will want to wear every day.
Radar Watch has an e-paper display, which aims to replicate the look of military-radars with the use of 60 display segments.
If you would like to change the pattern on the watchface simply press the red button and change it.
With over 200,000 display patterns, every watch looks unique. Every time your press the button the segments on the e-paper display will change randomly.
The Radar Watch comes in three color combinations:
Radar Brass combines a rose gold case with a navy blue strap. This color combination is sure to make your Radar Watch the focal point of your outfit.
Radar Black with its gunmetal black case and military beige strap best represents the design inspiration for this watch, which is military equipment.
Radar Steel is the most subtle model of the Radar Watch range. Its steel colored case and metal grey strap make it the perfect accessory for any outfit.
The Radar Watch is encased in an alloy body, vacuum coated for rugged surface preservation, and diamond hardened mineral glass.
The strap is made of liquid silicone rubber, which is decidedly different from conventional silicone straps. These straps are much lighter in comparison, giving the watch an almost luxurious feel. Silicone rubber is made specifically for interaction with your skin and is hypoallergenic.
The watches use a precision analog movement for timekeeping and a custom e-ink display, for simultaneous analog and digital functionality. They employ two separate batteries for the analog and digital functions.
Radar Watch straps are easily exchangable. We offer a range of additional straps, so you can customize your watch according to your taste.
If you choose to pledge an additional € 10 on any reward level, you can choose one of the straps that comes with one of the three Radar models.
Or you can choose one of the three extra color variations that can only be acquired as an accessory.
You will be able to choose your preferred color at the end of the campaign.
We have carefully planned out each step of our manufacturing process to give you the most realistic shipping date. Here is a high-level summary of the most important steps.
We are really keen on making this watch a reality. Therefore, we have tried to squeeze the price for the Kickstarter community as far as possible to be able to provide you with great value rewards.
WHAT? is revolutionizing the watch industry one watch at a time by making watches that are unique in design and functionality for people that want to stand out.
We build high quality watches that use just the right amount of technology to set us apart from both smartwatch and classic watch brands.
SCANDINAVIAN DESIGN & SWISS ENGINEERING
Our watches are created according to Scandinavian design principles: Functionality, simplicity and clean lines, and when it comes to watch-making, Swiss engineering is best in class. That‘s why it’s at the core of everything we do.
WE ARE A TRULY INTERNATIONAL TEAM
It all started in Brooklyn, NY. This is where our founder Igor Basargin joined up with Masashi Kawamura, a renowned Japanese Creative Director, to come up with the concepts of our watches. After successfully launching, we are now operating worldwide, with offices in New York, Switzerland, Vienna and Hong Kong. Our team is made up of multiple Nationalities.
PREVIOUS KICKSTARTER CAMPAIGNS
After a successful funding of the Calendar Watch, we launched the Monograph Watch on Kickstarter. Although we weren't able to reach our funding goal with this unique idea, we received lots of positive feedback from the Kickstarter community about the design of the Radar model. So we made some important changes. We focused more on the design and simplified the functionality of the watch, which helped make the watch more affordable. We are now proud to present the all new Radar Watch!
Risks and challenges
We have an experienced team, plus we successfully launched Calendar Watch in 2016, which has been well-received and has much of the same materials and technologies; genuine leather, high-grade stainless steel, low energy Bluetooth and an E-paper display.
In addition, we have developed over time a great support network, so that where our team is less experienced, we can still deliver great products.
Demand Forecasting Risk
We’ve done our very best to forecast demand and create a solid production plan according to our previous experience. We are also going to be updating the plan in accordance with the Kickstarter success and demand.
Supply Chain Risk
We’re working with a very capable team, who successfully delivered the previous Calendar Watch project to market. Nevertheless, component delays and unexpected shortages are possible. If this happens, we’ll be sure to keep you informed and work to quickly solve the problem.
Communication is key for us - just take a look at our previous Kickstarter campaign and you will see that this was one of the aspects our backers liked the most about us!
