We met in 2004, cooking in Houston's fine dining scene. After seeking out our careers separately, we both wound up back in Houston at the same time in 2009 and began a journey that would help develop the food truck scene in Houston. In 2010, we launched our truck with the hopes of bringing soul-satisfying street food to the masses. Our hard work paid off and H-Town StrEATs has won several culinary awards for its innovative menu, while gaining the support of Houston foodies. http://blogs.houstonpress.com/eating/2012/08/100_favorite_dishes_2012_no_40.php http://blogs.houstonpress.com/eating/2013/11/100_favorite_dishes_2013_no_65.php. and http://houstonstop100foodtrucks.com/
And also a My Table Foodie Star award! http://houston.eater.com/archives/2013/10/07/at-the-my-table-houston.php.
We've also made it into great foodie books, such as Paul Galvani's Houston's Top 100 Food Trucks http://houstonstop100foodtrucks.com/ and Tiffany Harilek's Trailer Food Diaries http://trailerfooddiaries.com/.
After much success (and enough long hours on a hot truck), we have come up with another genius plan. We've determined that Houston is lacking in artisan gourmet donut and kolache shops. Between the two of us, we possess all the knowledge, creativity and love of the craft to bring awesome donuts to this great city. We have been testing the market by doing pop-ups and special events over the past year. These events have proven very successful and have given us the motivation to move forward with our dream.
Now Hugs & Donuts is almost complete! The space is being built and the equipment is sitting in all of our garages, waiting to go to its new home in the Heights. Permits have all been approved and rent is currently being charged. We are inviting you, our loyal fans, to join us in finishing the project so that you can enjoy our delicious creations. With your pledges, we can finish the shop (electrical work, plumbing, interior finishing touches) and you can earn some cool rewards in the process.

Risks and challenges
Opening up this shop is a huge deal, both for our team and for Houston. When we started the food truck, there wasn't even a food truck scene to speak of here. We helped pave the way for the 40+ gourmet trucks that are currently flourishing in this city. The Hugs & Donuts project is aiming to do the same thing in a sweeter way. Any obstacle that may arise wouldn't even phase us, because we are seasoned pros at making something out of nothing. Once Hugs & Donuts is open, it cannot logically fail.
