(Our video is too big for Kickstarter! You can view it here!)
RESIST. ANY WAY YOU CAN.
The world is in turmoil. The world is always in turmoil, but in recent years, people have seen violence and hatred become proud instead of ashamed. What meager rights we've fought for are being deliberately eroded. And the vulnerable have any help stripped away. All of this is happening openly and without fear of reprisal. And the worst perpetrators are some of the largest governments of the world.
Resisting the spread of fascism is as important now as it was 75 years ago. And there are many effective ways to resist.
RESIST FASCISM is a micro-anthology of science fiction and fantasy tales that explore the many and varied ways people can fight back. From helping promote low-income housing, to fighting fascists hand-to-hand, to burning it all down. Best of all, RESIST FASCISM shows that you don't have to be a hero to advance change.
Table of Contents:
- Santiago Belluco - "Meg's Last Bout of Genetic Smuggling"
- JL George - "We Speak in Tongues of Flame"
- R.K. Kalaw - "3.4 oz"
- Barbara Krasnoff - "In the Background"
- Rivqa Rafael - "To Rain Upon One City"
- Marie Vibbert - "The Seventh Street Matriarchy"
Izzy Wasserstein - "Pelicanimimus and the Battle for Mosquito Ridge"
- Tiffany E. Wilson - "Meet Me at State Sponsored Movie Night"
These are the stories that will definitely be included, totaling about 30,000 words. If we reach some of our stretch goals, we'll be able to add extra stories, and pay the authors better!
This project was conceived of in July at ReaderCon, and we intend to publish it on Monday, November 5 - the day before the US midterm elections. With such a short timeline, we've had to shorten the Kickstarter window to three weeks. Edits, formatting and proofs will be taken care of during the Kickstarter period, so we can get books printed the moment the Kickstarter funds are released. We can do it!
$6000 will be enough to pay the cover artist, and pay authors $0.07 per word for their stories. It will also cover ebook creation, printing and shipping costs (including reward fulfillment), and Kickstarter/Paypal fees.
$6700 - We'll add another 5,000 words! (1-2 stories)
$7500 - We'll raise the pay for all the authors to $0.08/word!
$8200 - We'll add another 5,000 words! (1-2 stories)
Add-ons: OOP titles!
We've been asked if we'd offer some of our previous titles as add-ons for pledges, so here they are! And they're half off their original prices!
These are available ONLY to add to pledges for print copies of Resist Fascism ($12 pledges and up). We can only sell the print copies we have remaining, so all titles are limited quantities! We'll mark them "Sold Out" if we run out of any. (This may be the last time some of these titles are ever available!)
NOTE: Shipping is for USA only. If you want to add something to an international pledge, please contact us for shipping costs.
For any pledge $12 and up:
- Long Hidden: add $10 + $1 shipping
- Fierce Family: add $6 + $1 shipping
- Subversion: add $6 + $1 shipping
- Fat Girl in a Strange Land: add $6 + $1 shipping
- Oomph: add $6 + $1 shipping
- Menial: Sold Out
- Winter Well: Sold Out
- CG Magazine 2.0 Book 1 (issues 1-6): add $7 + $1 shipping
- CG Magazine 2.0 Book 2 (issues 7-12): add $7 + $1 shipping
- CG Magazine 2.0 Book 3 (issues 13-18): add $7 + $1 shipping
After adding to your pledge, please contact us (message through Kickstarter, or email) and let us know which title(s) you want! (This way we can keep track and make sure we don't accidentally sell more than we have!)
If you have any questions please ask! Thanks!
Who We Are
September 1 marks the 10-year anniversary of Crossed Genres' beginning. We are a small press dedicated to publishing works by and about people underrepresented in Science Fiction and Fantasy.
Our publications have been nominated for Locus and World Fantasy Awards, and stories we've published have appeared in numerous "Years Best" collections. Many authors we've published have gone on to win Hugos, Nebulas, World Fantasy Awards and others. Two short stories we published have been or will be read by LeVar Burton on his podcast Levar Burton Reads.
Because our submission guidelines always specifically encourage submissions from authors of color, LGBTQIA+ authors, disabled authors, and other underrepresented groups, we have been called "Everything wrong with science fiction & fantasy today" by well-known anti-"SJW" trolls.
At one point, we put that on a t-shirt.
Risks and challenges
Crossed Genres has run six successful Kickstarters prior to this one. The book is being set, and will be ready for heading to the printer as soon as we reach our goal. This is the tightest printing schedule we've ever had, and we are fully prepared to make it happen.
If we fail to reach the funding goal, RESIST FASCISM doesn't get made, it's as simple as that.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
