I grew up in a musical family -- my dad gave me my first guitar lesson and my mom taught me to keep a steady rhythm. I've written and recorded music since I had a boombox with a record function in middle school, and when I was 17, I got my first job and saved up to buy a Tascam 4-track. I've loved the recording process ever since.
My current recording interface, however, is an outdated mBox 2 and ProTools LE 8 software that has started to malfunction. I am looking to update the interface with modest updated equipment and software that will allow proper multi-tracking in ways that caused me to fall in love with recording music in the first place!
When I'm not wearing my musician cape I'm a fifth grade teacher and children's author of Houghton Mifflin Harcourt published novel, I AM DRUMS. I released a soundtrack for the book last year to coincide with its release.
My new album, SILENT EXPLOSION, is a meticulously crafted solo work. Growing up on 90s rock planted the seeds for my love of sprawling electric guitars that fill your headphones and low end that rattles the whole neighborhood.
Love and care went into the layered vocal arrangements, as I was raised by parents who sang for decades in a four-part harmony Americana Band.
SILENT EXPLOSION is approachable, yet raw and allowed to breathe, with a bit of sludgy filth in places and melodic beauty in others. And with this Kickstarter campaign, the end product will be precisely the album I intended to create.
Why use Kickstarter this time? You've released music without it in the past!
Good question. I've released music in the past that I was proud to call my own. I'm using Kickstarter this time around because my scope has changed. This campaign will provide the proper recording tools and outreach to help SILENT EXPLOSION reach its full potential and be the album I truly want to create.
What will the money cover?
The campaign's modest goal has been set so that any and all funds can adequately cover the following:
1) The recording process - there are currently 8 songs recorded for SILENT EXPLOSION with an outdated MBox/ProTools LE. Campaign funds would provide an updated recording interface to properly rerecord and bring out the full tone and potential of these tracks. There are also 2-4 more songs planned. The final album will be pristine versions of the best material I've recorded this year (and I've recorded a lot).
2) Printing the first run of CDs - CDs would be awarded to pledges with said reward. The remaining print run would be sent out for review and sold at school visits and conferences. The album would also be distributed through major digital platforms.
3) Mastering -- Campaign funds were also budgeted for the purchase of good mastering software to give the final product a true, human touch. The samples on this page were mastered using Landr, an automated mastering service, but mastering by algorithm is imperfect by nature. Proper mastering software will give the final product a full, polished feel.
Risks and challenges
The key to completing musical projects is passion. Failure is almost always applicable to the musician or artist losing faith in their product, and as a musician I can say without a doubt that I am passionate about completing this project. I am proud of the songs and eager to share them with the world.
As a potential backer for SILENT EXPLOSION you are pledging with very little worry. You are supporting an artist intent on seeing his vision through and ready to hit the ground running at the conclusion of the campaign.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
