An Honor Roll of the American Expeditionary Forces
A list of Americans who made the ultimate sacrifice during World War One in the American Expeditionary Forces (A.E.F.).
This listing of the 80,000 overseas war dead will span 3 volumes, and will be the first comprehensive record of its kind ever published. Previously prepared typewritten lists by the U.S. Army following the war were never published, and these lists also omit the sacrifices of the nearly 3,000 U.S. Marines who died in service in the 4th Marine Brigade, fighting alongside their Army compatriots. These volumes will finally publish the name, unit, service number (for enlisted members of the U.S. Army), cause and date of death, and state to which the Army credits each fatality of the A.E.F.
In addition to official Army records, over 300 privately published world war histories produced by units and communities have been cross-referenced in my fatality database in an effort to be as complete and as accurate as possible. I have been working on this project for over 20 years now, but I still have a bit of work to do to get it into print.
This set will be of great value to historians, genealogists and militaria collectors who need to see if a Soldier or Marine died during the war, and find some basic information in order to start their research. Note that members of the U.S. Navy were not considered to be members of the A.E.F. and are not included--a separate published honor roll for WWI was published by the Navy.
The 3 volumes will encompass somewhere around 1,600 pages, and each volume will have a common introduction, preface and sponsorship acknowledgments, as I assume that some people may be interested in a single volume of the set if it contains an ancestor who died in the war. A pre-publication discount is being offered, both on single volumes and on the complete 3-volume set.
Here is a unique opportunity to sponsor a project memorializing the Americans who made the ultimate sacrifice in WWI in the A.E.F. Several of the rewards offer a named sponsorship--your name will be published in the sponsors' section of each book. You can also elect to dedicate your sponsorship to a family member who served in World War One or who is currently serving in the military.
Risks and challenges
To date, I have self-published 33 books--all on WWI--through CreateSpace. This is a print-on-demand service through Amazon.com, and this is the platform through which this set of books will be published. I encourage you to look at my other books by searching my name on Amazon and also by visiting my Facebook page, The Doughboy Memorial Press. I will be posting some further information about this project and probably some sample pages on my Facebook page.
Once these books are finished, the process to upload and approve them takes 24-48 hours. If you sponsor this project at the $75 or $150 level, I will be ordering your book(s) and shipping them before the books are made available to the public. There will be no long delay waiting for printing; generally, orders take about a week to a week and a half to ship from CreateSpace to me.
After 20+ years of research into WWI and the A.E.F., I have the expertise necessary, and have demonstrated that I have the skills to deliver quality products.
My track record of publications speaks for itself. I have mastered the process of taking raw data and transforming it into a meaningful printed work that honors the memory of our Doughboys and Marines. I am a one-person operation. I do all of my own research, graphics and layout. The upside of this is that I am not reliant on anyone else to do their part before this book can get done. The downside is that getting it done is solely through my efforts, so if something unforeseen comes up, there is no one to pick up the project. However, if this project gets funded, I will be able to clear my schedule and complete the remaining research and data entry within 30-45 days. I am giving myself plenty of time with the 11 November 2018 release date, but this set will likely be finished early in the year.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
