Makeosity Energy Scooter
Makeosity's young makers engineered a high tech energy scooter with portable generator to charge iphones and other electronic devices.
The energy scooter with its portable crank generator charges electronic devices when it's foot-peddled by its riders. The portable generator with AC adapter (patent pending) can be detached and attached to any scooter, bike or longboard. It was designed and built by Makeosity with young makers, ages 11-13, who wanted to create a product to encourage more urban youth, like themselves, to get out and exercise more. Their answer is to promote riding scooters, bikes and longboards through being digitally connected and fully charged through exercise. We have built two prototypes of the energy scooter and its portable charging device, with the energy scooters' young makers, and are raising funds to design, build and test a final model (scooter and portable energy generator). We will produce limited editions that we will test drive with youth in New York City. Through their feedback, we will tweak our final designs and create the final product(s), (scooter and energy generator and/or portable generator) and specifications for manufacturing.
Risks and challenges
We have mitigated the risks of the product development through the simplicity of the design and through testing the product with its target market (youth). The development costs have been kept to a minimum through the assembly of a team of qualified engineers and a 3D printer/manufacturer (BlackBox) http://www.blackboxmfg.com/ that won New York's Next Top Makers competition, and with support from Autodesk, whose staff have worked in tandem with the young makers to help their design and prototype come to life. Funding will help support the testing and quality assurance of the final product and prepare it for manufacturing.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
