Help fund a full, sextet performance, realization of Duane Pitre's "Feel Free" composition/album @ Cafe OTO in London, England.
In June of 2012 I will be heading to England and parts of Europe to tour in support of my new album, Feel Free. At this point, the tour is all self-funded and self-booked.
Though Feel Free features a group performance of the composition (of the same name), during this tour I’ll be performing the solo version of the piece, as it is too difficult financially to execute ensemble performances in each city without proper funding.
It’s important to me as an artist to have the piece represented to its fullest potential, as it is on the album, for at least one performance during this tour. You’ll be helping me accomplish this by supporting this Kickstarter project.
The tour will kick-off on June 14th at Café OTO, a prestigious music venue in East London. I found this to be the perfect city/space to showcase the aforementioned sole ensemble performance. Read about the show here: http://tiny.cc/cafe-oto-duane-pitre
As per my usual ways, I’ve personally rounded up an ensemble (consisting largely of London-based musicians) for this event, which will consist of a harpist (Jesse Sparhawk), violinist (Jennifer Allum), cellist (Oliver Barrett), contrabassist (Guillaume Viltard) and a hammered dulcimerist (James Blackshaw). This, including myself on electronics/guitar, is the instrumentation that appears on the album.
So here’s the deal: Currently, I’ll only have a small sum of money to give each musician, though they’ve all graciously agreed to take part in the performance anyhow. The money raised for this project will not only go towards paying the performers a proper amount (which without this fundraiser I cannot), it will also be used for securing a rehearsal space, procuring meals for the performers, instrument rental, and some light travel fees for performers.
See, Café OTO, as supportive and nurturing as they are, aren't able to offer the funding necessary to make an ambitious project such as this performance happen. Since these performers make a living playing music, I want to pay them a fair amount of money for their time, hard work, talent, and effort in making this night happen. They deserve this, and I want them to feel appreciated on all levels. (Keep in mind they’ll be devoting an entire day to rehearsals, an extensive sound-check, and the performance.)
Anything that is raised over my Kickstarter Goal will help me during the rest of my (solo) tour, which will bring me to Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland, and France. Travel to and within the UK/Europe is currently OUTRAGEOUS and anything over my goal will be put to direct use on this tour!
Thanks so much for your time!
