The Aardvark sells the best damn food at Snoqualmie Pass, WA and we're moving into a train! ___ All Aboard! ___
3,022 ft. up at Snoqualmie Pass there is a trailer called the Aardvark that sells the most creative and best damn food on the Pass, as well as the best curry in the state of Washington. Dan Wood is the man that runs this trailer and he has brought the community of Snoqualmie Pass together through his food. But the trailer has become too popular and is in dire need of more elbow room. To remedy this situation, Dan will be bringing a 70 foot long 1937 dining car up to the Pass to replace his trusty but too cozy trailer. The community is anxious to pitch in to get the new and improved Aardvark open and running to serve your favorite food and beverages. Getting this train car will improve the customers experience and allow more people to share in the experience. A train not only carries people, it carries dreams.
It's all about the food. Dan is a very talented chef who loves nothing more than to create memorable culinary experiences for his customers. "Dan has some pretty unique flavor combinations that he shares with us, and it's pretty awesome"
Some of the nicest, most talented if not eccentric people you'll ever meet live up at Snoqualmie Pass. There's a lot to say about the Pass, maybe a good place to start is wikipedia.org/wiki/Snoqualmie_Pass. As the wiki states 27,087 vehicles drive through the pass per day and you can be sure that many of those drives will be famished.
Here's a timeline of historical events that have occurred at Snoqualmie Pass over the last hundred years or so. We will include the arrival of the Aardvark train car to that list in 2013. The Aardvark won't be the first train car to arrive at the top of Snoqualmie Pass, however this dining car will have the best food by far. Back around the turn of the last century, the pass was called Laconia and the Aardvark is literally just a stone's throw from the old train depot roundhouse. For all of you train history buffs this website about Laconia will surely be interesting.
Why We Need Your Help
The $80,000 we want to raise through Kickstarter is to fund a few key steps in setting up the restaurant. We need to bring the train car
up to the pass. Everything is in place for the train car we only have to get it there. Then we need to weather it to withstand winters up at the pass and outfit it with the proper infrastructure, for example a deck and a ramp/stairs for access. Foundation and plumbing for bathrooms also need to be installed.
Dan already has the appliances for the kitchen and most of the interior ready to go.
The Videos were produced for Dan by Stuart Ferrier of Ferrier Productions. And a very special thanks to Eugene Peterson of the local band Pop Can Pipers for writing the song Train is Leaving as an inspiration from this project. You can hear more songs by them at Reverbnation.______________________________________________________
Here we'll post some specifics about some of the rewards. Check back for more details since we'll be updating this section.
Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
The good news is that we already have the biggest challenges handled. The property has been purchased, the permitting has been expedited, the moving company is ready to go, the plans have been drawn up and the local tradesmen are anxious to get started. While the train car is being renewed into the next favorite hangout on the Pass, the original Aardvark trailer will still be in full operation.
Everything is on track to be open before the snow flies this fall and you can help speed things along by contributing. But as we all know, unexpected situations can arise. The important thing to remember is that the Aardvark is and will be an important icon on Snoqualmie Pass. The local community is fully committed to helping out in any way. Even if there are unanticipated delays, you can be assured that the Aardvark will open in the refurbished train car.
