The creation of Indigo Sea has been a journey unlike any path I’ve walked before. This collection of songs is a meeting of rivers, a connection to the very roots of my being, and a call from the heart to go deeper. These songs asked me to walk into unknown waters without hesitation, to follow without question, and bring forward the poetry and sounds of my depths. This music, the musicians who came together to create it, and the journey it has lead me on has been a magical and powerful one. It has shaken me to my core and moved me in ways I never imagined. In choosing to make my first independent album, one with total creative freedom, I’ve been lead to more support, connection and real community than ever before. Now I want to invite you to join that community and bring this music to life together.
This campaign is about a creative exchange, a collaboration and an opportunity to feel the power of community. So, inspired by friends and artists with a similar model, I’ve decided not to focus on a monetary goal. I’ve asked for $108 as this is an auspicious number that represents the never-ending nature of creativity and life itself. There is no doubt that your generosity, in whatever amount, will make it possible for me to share this music and will be received with huge appreciation. The more we receive, the more we can create. Every dollar will carry this music forward. As always, by listening to my music you make it possible for me to keep creating it. This platform is a celebration of our global community, and a direct way for you to see that you make this music possible, and I am deeply grateful.
I’ve spent many months with my team imagining all the ways this campaign can invite you into my creative space, into the world of these songs, and to celebrate the community behind this album. I’m so ready to share this music with you, and to have you with me on the journey of bringing it to life.

Aisling Urwin, Harp/Vocals
Aisling is a harpist and singer-songwriter hailing from the seaside town of Kenmare in Co. Kerry, Ireland. She is an award-winning multi-instrumentalist, and her music is truly transporting. Aisling and I met in Ireland when I heard her play in a pub, and it lead to a collaboration that has been a gift beyond words to this music. Aisling will be on tour with us opening with her own songs and joining our band in 2018/2019. Check out her gorgeous new solo album Dragonfly Jig.
Sukhmani Kaur Rayat, Percussion/Vocals
Sukhmani Kaur Rayat is a tabla player, percussionist and multi-instrumentalist from the UK. She is a student of Bhupinder Singh Chaggar and Pandit Sharda Sahai of the Banares Gharana, and has spent much of her life as one of the few women seriously pursuing a professional career playing tabla, and gaining international acclaim within that path. She is celebrated as a musician both in classical Indian music, and throughout the world music genre. I first started playing with Sukhmani about 6 years ago, and we have toured the world together, finding our musical identities and egging each other on every step of the way to speak out and sit in our truth. On this album, her beats and rhythms are game-changing. Follow her here.
Seamus Egan, Flute/Whistle
It’s hard to think of an artist in traditional Irish music more influential than Seamus Egan. From his beginnings as a teen prodigy, to his groundbreaking solo work with Shanachie Records, to his founding of Irish-American powerhouse band Solas, to his current work as one of the leading composers and interpreters of the tradition, Egan has inspired multiple generations of musicians and helped define the sound of Irish music today. As a multi-instrumentalist, he’s put his mark on the sound of the Irish flute, tenor banjo, guitar, mandolin, tin whistle, and low whistle, among others. As a composer, he was behind the soundtrack for the award-winning film The Brothers McMullen, co-wrote Sarah McLachlan’s breakout hit, “Weep Not for the Memories,” and has scored numerous documentaries and indie films since. I was lucky enough to meet Seamus and first hear him play when I was 4 years-old. His music has stayed with me since, and following his work has been ever-inspiring. Having him bring his flutes to these songs means more than I can say. Check out his band The Seamus Egan Project for some seriously good music.
Bogdan Djukic, Violin
A former winner of three national violin championships in his native Yugoslavia, Bogdan came to Canada in 1999 and has since had extensive performance experience in klezmer, classical, Mariachi, Latin and Serbian folk music. When I first heard Bogdan play, it was from far away at a festival. Hearing his violin within seeing him play, I couldn't even tell what instrument it was. His playing is unlike any I have seen and heard, and when he plays he truly becomes one with the sound, and takes you right along with him. I have wanted to collaborate with Bogdan for years, but I'm grateful it happened at just the right moment. His playing on this album is pure magic. Find him in concert with Mirabai Ceiba, Los Padrinos or one of his other projects. You will be so happy you did.
Raffa Martinez, Vocals/Percussion
Raffa is a percussionist, songwriter, and ceremony holder from Barcelona, Spain. He has traveled learning both the rhythms and instruments of communities around the world, and the ceremonies that keep them connected. He now shares his music and his practice as one, holding retreats, touring and sharing what he has gathered. Knowing Raffa has been a huge blessing for me both musically, and in the space he carries with him. His presence always lets me relax into our concerts as if they were no different than a ceremony. Touring with him and having him on this album are an incredible gift. Check out his music here.
Maneesh de Moor, Keyboards
Born in the Netherlands, Maneesh is a world-renowned composer, producer and instrumentalist. He specializes in the crossover of ethnic/traditional styles and contemporary atmospheres and grooves. Maneesh produced by last 3 albums, and has been an incredible support and guide in my musical life. The ways he supported this album to come to life, and the humility to allow me to self-produce but offer such full and complete support, will remain with me always. Plus, he is an absolute musician with those keys. Check out his other-worldly music here.
Todd Boston, Guitar
Todd is a guitarist/multi instrumentalist/composer/producer that defies what is possible for one musician. He produces an organic and mesmerizing sound marrying together his love of music, nature and technology. Todd is one of those people who has become one with his instrument to the point that I know it's him from hearing just one note. He knows what he wants to say with each note, and I feel it. I had the pleasure of working with Todd as the producer for my second album, and spent the winter in his studio together with him and his beautiful wife Andrea. I have such deep admiration for who Todd is as a person, musician and friend. What he brings to these songs is immense. Check out his beautiful instrumental albums here.
Ezra Landis, Guitar
Ezra grew up in a home full of music in the mountains and forests of New Hampshire. A self-taught guitarist, Ezra has become a much loved instrumentalist for many touring artists, and has been featured on countless albums. I met Ezra when we were teenagers, and somehow we just kept playing together until it became our work, our life. Ezra has been an incredible musical support in my career, and on my albums. His friendship and our musical bond is a profound gift to my life and to this album.
Sarah Siri Kirtan Carlisle, Bass
Sarah's love of music has lead her through many genres including Jazz, Classical and most recently World Music. Sarah tours as the bass player for popular chant artist Snatam Kaur. Sarah and I really became close while I was touring with them, opening for Snatam's concerts. We've always gotten each other musically, both having celtic roots present in our musical tastes, but also branching into other genres and flavors. I knew Sarah and her upright bass were the perfect fit for this album, and I'm very grateful she brought such taste and beauty to the earthy bass tones that carry us all in this music.
These musicians make up the musical family of this album, and they have moved me so deeply in the process. More featured guest artists to be announced soon!
Risks and challenges
When I first decided to do a kickstarter, I knew I wanted to do it in a way that I could invite you all into the process at a moment when I could follow through and tell you just when you'll be getting the finished product. I've tried to do that by getting all of the recordings done before inviting you into the process, with the songs already shaped and close to completion, but also to invite you to join me while I'm still deeply immersed in its creation. There is always a possibility for unexpected delays. but I feel very confident we will be delivering the final album into your hands late August 2018. I am deeply grateful for your interest in supporting my music, and can't wait to share the rest of it with you.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
