What drives someone to brutal, rage fuelled murder?
And when the madness clears - what effect does that single act of ferocious savagery have on the world around you?
The Hanged Man is a double sided, full colour concertina book illustrated by Clark Bint and written by Ash Deadman.
Set in the past - it tells the story of a pivotal murder in a burgoening small village - and the cascade of unfortunate events that follow.
Each A5 page portrays a poignant moment in the barbaric tale. But the concertina book is also designed to be read as a panoramic tapestry - a continuous linear image - that follows the events of the story, and of our murderer, as he attempts to escape the consequences of his actions.
So The Hanged Man functions both as a story book, ready to sit in your collection, or as a beautiful piece of artwork to be unfolded and displayed.
This is a dark and harsh tale of mistakes, regret and consequences.
It's not for the faint hearted. We are not shying away from the horror and gothic elements of the story. The campaign doesn't end on Halloween night for nothing.......
This whole package is wrapped up in stunning, atmospheric art from Clark. The large panel format here really lets Clark stretch his artistic legs and the freeform panel layout that Ash and Matt provided has allowed him to create some breathtaking and inventive images.
Our story examines the reason why murder holds such unusual connotations for the modern day villagers of Fadfeld - as well as the story of how the village pub, The Hanged Man, got its ominous name.
It also casts light on the unusual forces at play within the village - a powerful presence that will step in and make a momentous decision with consequences that echo far into the future.
As we hurtle towards the climax of our story we learn that murder, death and it's repercussions are never the end - our tale has a twist that’s both joyous and disturbing……
So The Hanged Man tells the horrifying tale of Fadfield's past and reveals the pivotal moment that shaped its history - and as such is a prequel to the best selling and critically acclaimed graphic novel Murder Most Mundane.
Murder Most Mundane is a delicious, twisted subversion of many a TV detective show – Midsomer Murders, in particular – peppered with black humour and truly horrendous characters that will fascinate… and, perhaps, haunt you - DOWN THE TUBES.net
Murder Most Mundane is a dark British whodunnit that leans heavily on movies like Hot Fuzz or The Wicker Man for inspiration...a dark and stylish murder mystery with a twist! - PIPEDREAM COMICS.
A tongue-in-cheek take on these English crime dramas that never takes itself seriously, yet is all the same a murder mystery...utterly brilliant - FANBASE PRESS.

THE HANGED MAN reunites the Murder Most Mundane team of Deadman, Hardy, Bint and Jones.
Ash Deadman is the writer of MURDER MOST MUNDANE - a murder mystery graphic novel referred to as a ‘masterpiece' - and not even by this mother. Ash is also the writer on the upcoming ‘SAXON’S SECOND HAND BOOKS’ and a connoisseur of craft beers. If this Kickstarter does well - we’ll buy him a real beer….
“Don’t choose a photo for the bio that makes me look like a mug’ said Ash.
Clark Bint is the incredible artistic talent behind comic books Murder Most Mundane and Frank At Home On The Farm. Clark lives in a dark, deep dungeon, which Matt and Ash are assured will keep him hidden and safe from the major comic publishers...
Matt Hardy is a relentless indie comics editor as well as the writer behind several hit comics, such as Cadavers, Murder Most Mundane, and the upcoming Vehi-Killer. He has forgotten what sleep is.
Robin Jones is a lettering veteran of hundreds of comic books. We adore Rob's work - and when we first told him about the project, Rob's immediate response was "I've no idea how to letter a fold out book" :) Bless him!
Risks and challenges
The creators of this campaign fully support the actions of the unoffical Kickstarter Union and Kickstarter United's efforts to get the voluntary union recognised.
As such this is just a 2 week campaign - we are running this campaign solely to cover the costs to print and the cost to pay the creators here.
It's the first time we've attempted a concertina, but we have some experts on hand for advice on the mechanics of it. As a result we expect to have the book ready for shipping way before the given shipping date.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
