Everyone loves a disturbingly gruesome murder mystery.
But how many murders are too many?
Murder Most Mundane is an original graphic novel set in a tranquil, idyllic village where the type of murders are inventive and the murder rate is somewhat high….
Murder Most Mundane is a beautifully illustrated, high-concept 86 page book - told in the vein of dark, brutal humour that people have come to expect from Mad Robot Comics.
Inspired by TV detective shows where, each week, we tune in to find another poor victim brutally slain - shock and horror echoing throughout the local community - but no-one ever mentions the exact same thing happened just last week.
Barely a day goes by without a cold blooded bludgeoning or a calculated cruel poisoning. The death rates in these small towns or villages is higher than most war zones.
Everyone remembers the murders - but no-one actually seems to care. Are we actually looking at a village full of serial killers?
Or, do the origins of this unusual status quo lie in the mythical traditions and unspoken dark secrets of the village's historical past?
We are very fortunate to have the detailed and unnerving art of Clark Bint bringing this picturesque village and the macabre deaths of it's inhabitants to life.
This is Clark’s first major comics project - he is a massive talent and we feel he is destined for big things - so we are overjoyed to have him on board.
Murder Most Mundane draws on classic whodunnits and detective shows - but with a stronger element of horror - Lovecraft influenced B-movie violence and gore.
We take a close look at why the locals in these peaceful villages just can't stop killing each other - in a litany of unusual, ingenious and graphic ways.
We also examine the almost supernatural ability of detectives to be at exactly the right place and time to solve these unusual murders.
Imagine Sam Raimi directing an episode of Poirot.
Or John Carpenter in charge of the next series of Midsomer Murders.
It's Hot Fuzz with a healthy dose of Se7en and The Wicker Man thrown in.
And more murders than you can shake your blood stained trowel at!
Can a police detective penetrate the veil of secrecy and local suspicion and get to the bottom of this violent and sinister puzzle? And once he does….... will he wish he’d left well alone.......?
Detective Inspector Rutherford's blunt and slightly arrogant manner underscores a lethally analytical mind. Driven by a desire to uncover the truth and see justice done, he takes huge pride in his ability to pull together disparate evidence and expose the complex machinations of killers. He has no idea how much he will be tested.
Detective Sergeant Bonham - a local lad who, despite his keen intellect, is a little naive and overeager. His desperation to do the right thing and impress Rutherford will earn him the animosity of the rest of the village, and the events of Murder Most Mundane will pierce Bonham to his very heart.
Our story takes place in Fadfield - a picturesque country village - thatched roofs, local pub, a green where the locals enjoy relaxing games of cricket or lawn bowls.
Mysteries deepen, and Fadfield reveals itself not to be the picturesque location it seems on the surface, but rather a festering cesspool of petty grievances and hatred, constantly spilling over to violence and murder - and something must be done!
And more worryingly - could these murders be more than just arguments over hedgerows and parking spaces - could something else lurk deep beneath the assumed civility of Fadfield - something dark and powerful....

So, who are the troubled souls raised in these small villages, now cathartically working through their childhood traumas as the MMM creative team.
Matt Hardy - raised by ancient and revered comic-monks, able to kill a man at 20 paces with the spine of a graphic novel. Matt's credits include Last Exit to Brighton, Madhouse and the ongoing Cadavers. A graduate of Andy Schmidt's Comic Experience Class in New York, a trustee of the Gaming Vs Cancer charity and founder of MRC. Matt owns no aardvarks.
Ash Deadman - The originator of the twisted concept of Murder Most Mundane. A lifelong comics fan, this is Ash's first writing gig and already he seems to be carrying co-writer Matt Hardy ; ). Despite the rather gruesome tone of MMM, Ash has never been convicted of murder. Convicted.
Clark Bint studied illustration at Arts University Bournemouth - he has worked on storyboards and posters and has self-published some small comic strips. Clark’s inspirations include British comics, classic sci-fi, Underground Comix and a deep love of B-movies. Basically the only way Clark could be more perfect for this book is if he had a basement full of dead bodies. We are not going to look.
A Mad Robot Comics project wouldn't be the same without MRC mainstay, Edward Bentley. The Madhouse and Cadavers artist is turning his many talents to providing colour art for this project - using a pallet suiting the natural hues of the English countryside.
And lettering up this magnificent book will be Madius Comics writer and award winning letterer Rob Jones. Rob brings a level of sophistication and style that we have come to depend on in our books.
The story of Murder Most Mundane will sit within the Mad Robot Comics existing universe of characters and events.
This will be our 5th Kickstarter. Check out www.madrobotcomics.com for our other products.
Thank you for your time. We hope you are as excited about this book as we are and will join us for what promises to be a Killer Kickstarter Campaign!
Risks and challenges
We have a track record of delivering successful Kickstarters - but are going to give ourselves until December for this one.
Although the book is fully scripted - and Clark is tearing through the remainder of the art - we don't want to rush him to complete the project, when he is producing such breathtaking work.
BUT, this is a labour of love for all involved and each member of the creative team are dedicated to putting their best work into the final product. We feel this is a gem of a book and anticipate nothing will stop us from getting it into your hands.
We hope you agree - and as such are able to help us finance paying Clark for the rest of the art and getting the book to print. Your help here is very much appreciated and we look forward to having you along for the ride.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
