About

I already have a small business making and selling wigs to women and girls locally, using real human hair of various lengths and styles.   This business I formed alongside my university module in Entrepreneurship, following ll the advice about doing market research, choosing suppliers carefully, organising efficient delivery and - of course - keeping meticulous accounts.

I am enjoying this activity and it can make me a small living I'm sure.   During my research I came across a woman who was suffering breast cancer and as well as suffering great sickness from the chemotherapy she suffered just as much from the debilitating loss of her hair - this made her feel very unattractive and ugly.   Her story resonated deeply within me and I decided to make her a donation of a custom-made wig - it was short and curly: she was thrilled and told me that it really helped aid her recovery.   I did some further research and discovered many other women in the same position; at that moment I saw my destiny - to make wigs for cancer sufferers.

So my desire for a Kickstart came from this; if I can help just one woman a month I will be so happy!   My kickstart fund will allow me to buy the hair for the first year's worth of wigs, plus the delivery cost; I will dontae my time in assessing the patients' needs and in making the wig.   Do you want to be the angel who makes this possible?   I truly hope so!

Risks and challenges

Starting a business is a risk itself and every business has got its risk, risk such as I can have greater competition than expected leading to sale, say, 15 percent below the forecast and gross margin 2 per cent lower than forecast; the main supplier proving unwilling to continue to supply; exchange rate and downturn in the economy leading to sales, says, 15 percent below forecast.
In case of major operational problems such as failing to get planning consent or losing my main supplier or a fundamentals breakdown in my production process. I will address these issues by have permits or contracts in place, I have also I have other supplier who I can rely on in case of emergency. My suppliers and I have agreed on fixed exchange rate price list.
Lower margin for example, I will address by targeted promotional activity, reconsidering the sales mix or raising prices (albeit at the cost of losing sales). I am aware that raising prices will results in lost sales. I have set my price based on the minimum and maximum that I can sell the product. All my sales are based on maximum price, that will allow me to do adjustment prices.
