A few years ago I started working on a dungeon about moth monsters, a planet-drowning god from the distant reaches of outer space, and the apocalypse cult that worships it.

Now, the dungeon is written and has my art on almost every page, and I'm very excited to finally share it with the world as a part of the Zine Quest event!

Temple of the Blood Moth is an OSR dungeon zine full of horrible moth-creatures, a doomsday cult, strange mutants, and rusted, blood-pumping machinery.

The biological life-cycle of the central creature, the Moths, is a framing element of the dungeon itself, inspired by movies like Alien and The Thing. Each subterranean level of the dungeon corresponds to a different corresponds to a different life-cycle stage.

This dungeon is designed to be directly compatible with OSR systems and easily adapted to 5th Edition and other systems. All monsters will include stat-references which can be used to figure out how they work in basically any game with a Monster Manual.

Though Temple of the Blood Moth has some sci-fi elements like mutation, biological horror,  and machinery, it can be comfortably incorporated into any D&D-like medieval fantasy setting.

The zine is already written and I am currently editing and re-writing parts of it based on playtesting, to make it the best it can be!

Larvae like this one are the second of three life-cycle stages of the Moths.

The dungeon is composed of 4 levels, Temple, Harvester Cells, Brood Dens and the Egg Gate. Each level has its own map, totaling 31 unique rooms.

In addition, the zine contains 8 monsters (Eggs with strangling tentacles, man-eating Larvae, and vicious Cultists, to name a few,) 2 pages of random tables, 7 magic items and 6 original spells.

Examples of my previous game writing can be found on my blog, Flowers for the Titancorpse, and in the sample random mutation table below!

I'm an artist/college student who primarily makes comics and I've always been passionate about drawing. Making the drawings and maps for this dungeon has been a lot of fun, and I'm proud of the work I've created.

I have been doing a lot of Risograph-based printmaking projects for the past year and I'm excited to finally turn this zine into something that I can share with people!

Some of my art can be seen on my Instagram here.

I have access to a Risograph printer and limited funding for printing costs. Funds from this Kickstarter will be used to compensate me for the many hours of work I've spent on this project for the past few years, and realistically will go towards paying my student loans through which I have gained access to the aforementioned Risograph printer.

(That may not be relevant to everyone, but I think transparency is always a good thing!)

Risks and challenges

This is my first Kickstarter and I've decided to wait as long as I have before finally printing this zine because I wanted the opportunity to edit it and do it right before committing to its final iteration. That said, I feel well-prepared to meet the deadlines I've set for this Kickstarter with all of the zine's illustrations and layout complete, the dungeon fully playable and finished, the monsters statted out, and the text fully written. The only remaining steps are final edits, printing, and distribution.
