Moving forward

We are sending the surveys today! A few points:

Cable choice: According to the camera yo have, you will need a specific cable to connect to your Astro. There are 9 different types of camera cables and you have to chose the one you need so we can send it in your package. We made a list where you will be able to specify the brand of you camera, the model, and we will tell you which cable you'll need to chose when answering the survey. If you can't find you camera on the list, make sure it has a remote input, and send us a message so we can help you. The list is still a WIP, if your camera is not listed, it does not mean it's not compatible. Same rule as always, if your camera has a remote cable input, then its compatible with Astro.

Pledge upgrade: We’ve received lots of messages from people who forgot to upgrade their pledge to include extra camera cables, smartphone cables, brackets, or international shipping. In the survey you should specify how many cables and brackets you want, even if you haven’t paid for them yet. You will be able to pay for them later, we will contact you to let you know if there is a missing payment and we'll give you our PayPal account to fulfill it.

And remember:

Extra smartphone cable: $5 dlls
Extra camera cable: $10 dlls
Bracket: $30 dlls

International Shipping:
Reward #2 (short guide book) $5 dlls
Reward #4-9 (1-2 Astros and Pan/tilt pack) $15 dlls
Reward #10 (Retail Pack) $30 dlls

Some of you asked so here's a small video we made showing how you change the batteries. It's just a 3d printed model and the finish is nowhere as smooth as the production model will be.

If we need an extra cable and indicated so in the survey, how do I pay you the extra $10? Take my money!

    2. John McCormick on October 16, 2012

Don't feel you have to wait for big happenings to post an update. Something like: "We did this since the last update." Include photo or video if it helps. No big production value required. Just show what you think we would find interesting.

    3. Oscar Ramírez Creator on October 16, 2012

You're right guys, we will post an update tomorrow, thanks for your suggestions and understanding

    4. Jeffrey B George on October 16, 2012

Hi Oscar, Hope you are doing very well. Would love to see some regular updates just as others are beginning to share interest for. To keep us happy, you don't have to say much and it doesn't need polished. We realize you have a ton on your plate to keep moving forward, and even expect you to take a break from time to time for life. I for one just absolutely love hearing and seeing images from the process. I think the process can be as exciting as the end product, though in the case here, the end product is going to be awesome as well. :-) Just know what you may find unexciting can be icing on the cake for us. :-) Best wishes.

I agree with John McCormick. I'm not impatient, but I'm feeling left out of the loop. We backed a project, not just bought a product, we want to know what's going on.

    6. John McCormick on October 15, 2012

Don't make the common mistake of going weeks (month plus now) between updates. If you don't want people reacting like they ordered a product instead of backed a project you have to keep them involved in the project development regularly. Frequent, useful updates are what it takes to avoid criticism and impatience.

I am eagerly waiting for December to come.

    8. Asko Penttilä on September 19, 2012

So, the Gentled would not be connected to astro at all? You would set the rotation on astro and triggering on gentled ? Or would you connect the astro to gentled ?

    9. Oscar Ramírez Creator on September 16, 2012

      @ Jan Kampling

You should choose the P12 Cable.

      @ Josh

The Nikon D60 does not have a cable remote input, however you can use this simple 3rd party solution , it allows most cameras with IR remotes to work with Astro ( including Sony's NEX, Pentax and Olympus mirrorless) it also works with the Nikon D60, check it out.

Hi, i first pledged for one astro and them updated to the pan and tilt pack. Unfortunatley i changed the reward level to zero first and was not able to set it accordingly, afterwards, because the rewards were sold out. now i'm stuck in the $ 30 level and i didn't get the survey, can u please check on that and send me the survey. thanks.

      Hi Oscar,

could you tell me which cable I need for the Olympus OM-D?

I got the update 7 for the Time Lapse (I pledged for the $200 Black version) and tried to do the survey to find the proper cable. It is a gift for my brother, who has a Nikon D60, but I didn't see the D60 on the list. I'm not that familiar with the Nikon SLR models so I'm not sure how to proceed from here.

Hi Oscar! Big question coming up: My DSLR got stolen while the project was getting funded, but obviously kept my pledge since the product is AWESOME. Now I know I'm gonna be replacing it but still don't know what with (probably a mirrorless). What should I do in order to make sure I pick the right one? What do you suggest me to do?

    14. Ignacio Alonso on September 12, 2012

      Hi Oscar!!!
I selected the Reward #3 ($30), but... I have a Nikon D300s and I want a N1 Cable and International Shipping. What I should do? Pay now, or wait for the future?

      Thanks a lot

Just to be clear: it doesn't seem possible for me to change my pledge amount - now - or it's not possible, not sure which. I opted for an L-bracket and a second camera cable. Should I assume you'll bill me in Paypal?

PS As kickstarter projects go, you guys are doing a fantastic job of communication. Kudos to you!

    18. Oscar Ramírez Creator on September 11, 2012

      @ rebornyama

The smartphone cable uses a 3.5 mm jack, so its compatible with almost every Android device.

15 dlls is for USPS shipping

I selected the Reward #3 ($30), [because I wanted the Reward #4-5-6 but it was sold out]

but... I have a Nikon D300s and I want a N1 Cable and International Shipping. What I should do? Pay now, or wait for the future?

      Many thanks

    23. Mikko Tapionlinna on September 11, 2012

Just to let you know, that you're missing Canon EOS 650D from your list, no worries tho, it uses the same C1 cable as the EOS 450D. (I have triggertrap with C1 cable and it works just fine with my 450D and 650D)

Do you have a USB Mini-B plug (5-pin) to trigger Canon PowerShot cameras running CHDK? If so, please let me know, as I'd like to add that in addition to the N1 cable.

The is no text field to add an X here:

"If you upgraded for a Pan & Tilt pack: (write X if it’s not your case) Choose the color for your two Astros
      One silver, one silver
      One black, one black
      One silver, one black"

I selected "one black, one black" just to get the form submitted, will this be a problem?

    27. Ryan Capulong on September 11, 2012

Hi Oscar, I just wrote 0 in the smartphone cable to indicate i don't want any extra. The survey didn't ask about what type of smartphone are we using. I am using an iPhone.

    28. Oscar Ramírez Creator on September 10, 2012

      @ Raju

Yes, every Astro includes 1 camera cable and 1 smartphone cable.

    29. Raju PP on September 10, 2012

Please clarify. One Smartphone cable and One camera cable will be included by default right? We need to pay only if we want extra cables?

Hi, the canon g1x is not on the last of cameras. Also, I will be buying a new camera sometime in the next month or so, possibly a d800 or (if it comes out as scheduled, a d600). Is there a deadline for ordering an extra cable? I don't know what type my next camera will need.

The rubber is tight and works great, think of it like a tupperware cap.

    42. Jeffrey B George on September 10, 2012

Just a heads up, there are conflicting comments above concerning the 60D. "Will P" & Benoit Roger" are correct. The cable is a C1 instead of C3/N3.

    43. Christian Schmeer on September 10, 2012

hmm.. I am wondering.. is the rubber solution on the batteries a good idea? (moisture / water concerns?)
