We did it!
As of last Friday, we have officially hit our Kickstarter target of £8,000! We'd like to extend our sincere gratitude to everyone who pledged to support Dodo Ink, and for all your help along the way. We have been overwhelmed by your generosity and support - we simply couldn't have done it without you, and are very excited to be sharing some incredible new writing with you next year.
For a tantalising preview of the first Dodo Ink publication of 2016, please do head over to our blog to read our debut author Seraphina Madsen on the making of Dodge and Burn, a novel which is at once highly personal and autobiographical, but also wears on its sleeve the influences of writers such as Hunter S. Thompson, Carlos Castaneda, Henry James and Vladamir Nabakov (to name but a few).
Here's a little extract:
William Faulkner famously said, “The best fiction is far more true than any journalism”, which allegedly inspired Hunter S. Thompson in the creation of “gonzo”. Picasso’s ideas on the matter seemed to clarify the point further: “We all know that Art is not truth. Art is a lie that makes us realize truth, at least the truth that is given us to understand. The artist must know the manner whereby to convince others of the truthfulness of his lies.” And that is what I set out to do, to convey truth with the artistry of fiction. I would use a form of the cut-up method pioneered by Brian Gysin and William S. Burroughs and pillage Jornada del Muerto, so that I could scatter its ashes all over the new material which would be drawn from my life, the lives of others, and my imagination.
Our campaign officially ends at 10pm (GMT) tonight, and for the final day we've added a new reward tier, at £300, which includes:
- All of the rewards at £100
- A special thank you on a separate page at the back of each of our first three books next year, bestowing upon backers the Dodo Order of Merit.
- A personalised Dodo sketch by Sam
We've also added worldwide shipping for our higher tier rewards, which were previously only available to UK backers.
We are so excited to have been given the opportunity to bring these three brilliant books to you next year, and can't wait to share our publishing journey with you over the coming months.
Sincere thanks again, from all of us. The Dodo has been so struck by your kindness that he's been inspired to start writing his memoirs (which we may feel duty-bound to publish).
