About this project
Status Quo is a fast paced first/third person shooter using the Unreal 3 Engine; from the creators of the Status Quo: Chronicles of a Universe at War Roleplaying Game Miffed Kitty Press. Status Quo: The Chronicle of Agent White will serve as an introduction to the series, allowing players to experience the story of one woman's fight to save a planet full of innocent people. Status Quo features customizable single player, co-op and competitive multiplayer, leaderboards, in-game chat and mailbox functionality, and customizable multiplayer characters.
Status Quo was originally released by its creators, Miffed Kitty Press as a table-top roleplaying game available as PDF or in hard copy on Amazon.com in May of 2007. The success of the initial release prompted Miffed Kitty Press to release the Complete Edition for free download in PDF in February of 2011. The response was so positive, the creators of Status Quo were approached about the Status Quo Project and asked to produce a first playable video game to show potential investors that it could be done. Now, we need help to keep the ball rolling, and to take this project to the next stage of production; a playable prototype that fans can truly get behind.
SQ is for players and fans of innovative science fiction, ages 13 – 60. Our goal is to bring Status Quo to a broader audience, and generate enough hype to give the project momentum. With help from your Kickstarter pledge, we hope to make Status Quo into a working alpha, and pitch it to full investors that can help us finish the project and get it out to the masses. As a standalone title we want to deliver a wide variety of options available to players for setting their own price-point.
In Status Quo: The Chronicle of Agent White, the player takes control of Agent Maddison White, a spoiled rich kid who ran away from home to avoid becoming her parents idea of perfect. After joining the Terran Defense Corporation, White becomes an agent trained to protect Humans wherever they colonize in space. What she hoped would be a “blow-off” assignment becomes a tragic fight to save colonists under the threat of alien invasion; teaching her the value of Human life and her role in protecting it.
While the game has strong elements of first or third person shooters, Miffed Kitty Press also wants to integrate a valuable part of the table-top gaming experience: the character sheet. Known in SQ as the "Template", this aspect of gameplay has a striking impact on the player's experience and how they choose to play the game. Players may adopt classes that make them a great pilot, a gun toting bad-ass, a medic, cameraman (Snoop), a leader capable of commanding “NPCs”, techs who are solid repairmen; or any combination of all of them. The Template allows for limitless replay value, urging players to think on their feet, and try gameplay styles they never would have considered in other first person shooters. There will even be a way to finish the game and save lives without ever firing a shot.
During the single player campaign players assume the role of Agent Maddison White, but this is only the beginning. After completion of the single player campaign, multiplayer is unlocked, along with another single player campaign that allows the player to assume the role of an invading Ji broodling (or one of her thousands of sisters). Character customization becomes a vital part of the gameplay in multiplayer, encouraging the player to customize their “toon” for every match; changing load-outs or adding points to classes and skills they will need on the battlefield. As the series continues, 24 races will take the field, each with new abilities, classes, and gear.
On the battlefield, a soldier itself is the best weapon; but it never hurts to have a lot of firepower. Status Quo will feature dozens of weapons, vehicles, tool-sets, and equipment to further customize the gameplay experience. Money will be earned in game by saving the lives of the colonists. The more of them stay alive, the more money the player gets to buy better gear.
Status Quo pushes the Unreal Engine to its limits, taking advantage of new features of the Unreal Developer's Kit. Agent White and players of co-op or competitive multiplayer will have a huge sandbox to battle in, breaking down into dozens of smaller maps for a variety of game modes and types.
Status Quo in its current form as a video game is incomplete, but it has the potential to become a fantastic multiplayer game for a variety of audiences, from casual to avid gamers. The Template System is in development, but has the potential to drive a massive player community driven by bragging rights and collective accomplishment. Based on the Template System in Status Quo: Chronicles of a Universe at War, the integration of this stats, skills, and classes system will allow players to track opponents, compare stats with friends, and improve their situational skills.
We intend to make Status Quo available on our website, as well as any other digital distribution platform worth consideration (such as Steam, etc). This would allow for an ever growing community, as the player base grows and as the universe expands with each new race released.

Continued Development: Contributions like yours allow us to keep going. With your help, this one game could grow into a series that fans around the world can stand behind.
Software Licensing: Licensing isn't cheap, and we can only do so much with open source software. We need the right tools for the right jobs.
Server Costs: Storage is important for development, and it isn't cheap. Once we open up for multiplayer testing, these costs will only go up.
Marketing and Advertising: We want to reach anyone who craves new and innovative science fiction gaming.
Legal and Accounting Consideration: We have to protect ourselves, and keep everything properly documented just as any other legitimate company would.
Up until now we have developed Status Quo using money from the sale of the original source book on Amazon, and from generous contributors like you. These sales have brought us this far, but we still have a long way to go before our playable alpha is ready to show the world. With pledge money received from Kickstarter, we hope to cover the various costs associated with creating a video game; from licensing the Unreal Developer's Kit and other software suites, continued development and maintenance efforts, and helping out local artists to pay their rent while doing more great work for us. We have delved deeply into our own pockets, but we need a boost to continue making this project a reality. We need your help to drive Status Quo to commercial success.
We know that our goal will not allow us to fully produce the game, but your contributions will help kick-start (pun intended) this project and permit our team to have the tools necessary to continue forward. Any amount donated in excess of our Kickstarter goal will soften the financial strain on Miffed Kitty Press, and allow us a broader access to more artists, tools, creative space, and hardware.
Together we can accomplish what any single one of us cannot do alone. With help from you and contributors like you, we can build a company, help artists and creative people feed their families, and work to produce something that people around the world can enjoy.
