Echoes of Aeons is an Action RPG, focused on beautiful art, a stunningly composed soundtrack, an awesome storyline, and of course fun and engaging combat. Think along the lines of The Legend of Mana, and Final Fantasy, but with a more modern twist. It will be released on iOS, Android, Mac, and PC.

The game will follow Eldric, a young man that was orphaned in his youth, who unknown to himself, is one of the Descended; and Rin the daughter Heir to the throne of Lusec, a peaceful nation on the brink of war due to lies and treachery. As they get thrown into the chaos that is brewing in Terra, their fates eventually cross, and they must overcome all obstacles as they learn who is really pulling the strings in their world - that the fate of not only Terra, but of an unknown world lost to the ages, is riding on their shoulders.

Get lost in the rich lore of the worlds and watch the story unfold through cut-scenes, a cast of unlikely heroes, and the wonderful emotion driven soundtrack!

EoA is being developed by our Team at Alchimia Studios as our debut game. We are currently a small but professional and dedicated team (that we hope to grow), who are both gamers and developers.

The art direction in EoA (Echoes of Aeons) is one of a kind, Instead of taking a pixel art approach, we decided to embrace the power of today's high resolution monitors, especially for the tablet and mobile markets. A digital hand painted RPG of this level and magnitude for mobile markets has rarely been done before by an independent studio. 

The artwork for the game is being headed by professional artists and game designers Jordan Kratochvil and Joshua Kratochvil.

They have been creating awesome technologies and techniques to bring this game to the next level. Things like Depth of Field, Dynamic Perspective in 2D space, Roto-scoped Animations, Parallaxing Backgrounds, and a Plethora of particles to name a few.  

Concept and Production Art -

Here is an example of some game assets. The first being a small shot of a city you visit called Qworth, the second of a race known as the "Qworthians" who inhabit this city. When assembled in the game engine alongside with animations, particles, NPC's, monsters, treasure chests, and more, they bring to life on your gaming device the living breathing world that is Echoes of Aeons.

Animation -

For the animation in EoA we are using a combination of a couple of different techniques and styles. We are using digital cutout, as well as hand painted frame by frame animation. We really wanted to bring the dual worlds of Terra and Insomnium found in the Echoes of Aeons Universe to life, with everything moving, and lots of cool lighting effects, critters, and particles. For all of the character animations we are using a 2d motion capture technique called Roto-scoping. This will enable us to bring the characters to life and really bring out the bad-ass in the battle animations.

The OST Score for Echoes of Aeons is being composed by 30 year music industry veteran Thom Sequoia.  The full soundtrack featuring over 60 in game music tracks, and possibly two other albums - one featuring 10-12 pieces for piano , and another featuring guitar compositions, will be available for purchase in iTunes, and on other digital media sites ( and of course DRM free to Kickstarter backers). There is also a special pre-OST release for Kickstarter CD available on Sept. 1, 2012 including 15 tracks (see Pledge level $15).

The stylings for the music in the game range from melodic or reflective piano and guitar pieces for emotional character memories, dreams, and cut scene dialogues - to fast paced rock anthems for battles - and full on orchestrations for main character themes and in-game city themes, as well as for epic boss battles. Many styles like mediterranean, oriental, medieval renaissance, and more have found there way into the wide range of cultures found in the dual worlds of Terra and Insomnium in Echoes of Aeons. Guitar tapping, finger-style, and pick hybrid styles are also present. The music of the game is high level art at it's finest.

The soundtrack is being recorded both in Thom's project studio, using a wide mix of both live instruments, sampled instruments, midi, and sfx - as well as some portions recorded in professional recording studios (part of the cost we hope will be defrayed with kickstarter funding). Roland keyboards and sound panels, Taylor and Guild guitars, Steinway Concert Grand piano, Digitech pedals, Pro Tools, and Garage Band, are some of the equipment and instruments being utilized for EoA.

Music influences range from Final Fantasy's Nobuo Uematsu and Hitoshi Sakimoto, to Chrono Cross' Yasunori Mitsuda;  Game Music influences from games like Chrono Cross, WoW, Skyrim, Final Fantasy, and Castlevania;  Movie scores by John Williams, and Brian Eno;  New Age music from such greats as Yanni, Enya, David Arkenstone, and Nicholas Gunn;  and rock greats like Blind Guardian, Styx, Dream Theatre, and Rush.

Thom has also owned AcoustiHouse, a concert production business for 15 years, as well as worked in radio. As a result, he has numerous connections to premiere independent instrumentalists, songwriters, bands, and touring artists from all genre's. Several tracks in the game look to feature some great independent contributors. These will be announced soon (think Indie Metal Band, EoA Game Orchestra, and nationally recognized  Pop Rock, Concert Violinists, Harp and Flute, Lead Electric Guitarist, and Folk Americana artists).

Echoes of Aeons will feature a massive world with lots of cities and stunning lands, strung together by an epic storyline, with over 20 hours of gameplay. Gone are the pointless gathering quests, and mind numbing slay X amount of mobs. We are going back to the days of classic RPG storytelling such as the Final Fantasy games, but throwing in our own modern twist to keep it well paced and fresh.  While the game is mostly linear, there will be a plethora of side quests and areas to explore as you progress through the game. We are only in pre-alpha and the gameplay still has plenty of modifications that are going to implemented.


Combat: For EoA we wanted to combine the older and newer styles of RPG’s to bring you an epic experience. Remember how crazy the spells could get from old turn based rpgs? They were awesome.  But while it is a tried and true system it is can be repetitive and daunting at times. How about the newer generation of KRPG’s and action RPG’s? Sure they are intense, and the melee is always great fun. But what about the grinding, oh the painful grinding! 

With Echoes of Aeons our goal is to bring the best of both worlds together. You will have the choice to go a more melee, a more caster, or an overall balanced route with your skill-set. While our game is an action RPG, with a comprehensive melee system, it is not focused around grinding endless waves/spawns of mobs. 

The battles are going to be strategic, we want you to play adaptively to the situation. This is especially true with our bosses, which use multiple phases, with various abilities and even some interactive/destructible environments which you can use to hide behind or use to your advantage in other ways. Your decision making matters. But don't worry, we’re shooting for the perfect balance of difficulty here so it remains fun.

Features:

- Combo slot system that allows you to allocate melee attacks you learn into your own unique order of execution.

- Elemental rune system that will unlock more powerful spells during combat by stacking and weaving spells and runes.

- Skill Tree that allows you to specialize your character your way, think Skyrim mixed with WoW. 

- Strategic combat, decision making during and before combat matters.

Crafting: The crafting system in EoA is going to use a combination of gathering, enemy drops, and purchased items. Using materials such as herbs, gemstones, and ores imbued with the Aeonic power, these items can be combined at a forge to give you “power stones” which your character can equip for cool stat bonuses and abilities. We are planning on having an extensive amount of possible crafted items, plenty of hidden ingredients, awesome boss drops, and possibly even more crafting skills.

Character Dialogue & In-Game Story: The dialogue will be well paced and positioned within the game, so you have a great balance of gameplay and story. We don't want to give away too much of the actual plot yet. I will say it involves conflicts of nations, heart wrenching love, rich and unique cultures, multiple worlds, and some pretty powerful and dangerous forces entwined into the fate of everything.

Weapons:  We all love a huge sword or epic bow to slice and dice our foes with, and we want to bring that to you with our game. Weapons will be an essential part of the game, and they will all have unique hand painted graphics. 

A long time ago, in a faraway galaxy... Oh crap, that ones been used already! No wait..."My son, the day you were born, the very forests of Lorderon, whispered the name.." ummm...LichKing...ummmm...and then Zidane met Princess Garnet.....damn!

Echoes of Aeons Story:

It was morning.

Eldric awoke - startled awake - but not sure what had startled him.

Then he remembered..."Damn! Not that stupid dream again!"  The dreams had been getting more frequent. But he always seemed to wake up just as he got to the part of understanding what the stupid dream was supposed to be telling him. But today was different. Today, he had gone further into the dream than before.

Why am I always late? Eldric threw himself out of bed, dunked his head into the water basin, and quickly threw on his clothes.  He needed to get to work. To the forge and the smithy.

He ran across the field to the blacksmith shop door, and flung it open. "Get the fires stoked nice and hot, Eldric", Smithy Geor always chided. "Get 'em glowing orange and red like the very fires of hell!" Geor would always say with that booming laugh. Well today he would do just that.

Today I learn Magecrafting! Real crafting! The magery, magical, alchemic kind!

Eldric entered the shop unaware of the eyes watching him from just beyond the pumpkin field fence, just into the morning trees in the forest of Westwood. 

He was unaware that while he had slept, the small adamantium crystal given to him in his youth by his parents the day they disappeared, had been glowing on the leather cord tied around his neck.

Unaware of the war brewing between the kingdoms; of a King and his daughter's disagreement; of the shadows beginning to creep across the land - unaware that the stories being told of strange dark creatures beginning to appear seemingly from nowhere, and attacking innocent townsfolk across the rural lands might actually be more than just tall tales told beside a campfire to scare friends.

But unawareness could stop you dead in your tracks from things you thought weren't even real. Unawareness could even hang the fate of the worlds upon your shoulders - if you weren't careful - without you even knowing it. 

Unawareness could kill you in a bloody heartbeat.

Joshua Kratochvil: 

Joshua is a professional artist and illustrator who started honing his skills in the game industry doing freelance work for card and video games. His work can be seen in games such as Shadow Era and other upcoming titles. Josh is one of the Founders of Alchimia Studios.

Thomas (Sequoia) Kratochvil: 

Thom has toured as a vocal and guitar contemporary folk rock artist, as well as a composer of instrumental, Orchestral, and New Age music. He has toured nationally, and appeared at many prestigious venues throughout the USA. http://thomsequoia.wordpress.com/thom-sequoia-touring-page/

He is the CEO/owner of AcoustiHouse Concert Productions, and 7th Revolution Marketing, and has worked professionally in the media, music, marketing, and retail industries.

Duties for the game include Music Composer, Music director, Storyline and Main dialogue scripting, and Marketing Director.

Jordan Kratochvil: 

Jordan is currently an IT manager and Digital Media specialist at Utah Valley University. He studied Animation and Digital media at UVU as well as attending the Atelier “TAD” run by conceptart.org. He is well versed in the traditional art media, but prefers digital painting. After honing his skills in Academia, he and his brother Joshua Kratochvil decided to go through with their dreams of creating RPG’s and founded Alchimia Studios. About a year ago Josh and I (Jordan) decided it was time to finally go through with our dreams of making awesome games, especially RPGs. So we created Alchimia Studios, with Echoes Of Aeons to be our Debut game. We are both professional Artists and come from an IT background, we have been working on Echoes of Aeons for almost 9 months now full time and have a lot of the games levels and art created. 

We have been able to take the game to a point in production where we are comfortable showing it to you, but we have a lot more to bring you still.  A ton of time, talent, and personal financial investment have got us this far. But we still have many more systems to implement and a huge list of things to get done. Not only do we want to improve the current systems, but implementing things like multiple crafting options, extra areas, more music, and fine tuning every aspect. You've seen only a fraction of the art, levels, music, and systems we have planned.

In order to accomplish all of these things we need more talent (Programmers!) to add to our team, equipment for testing and developing on, cameras and recording equipment to improve our animation techniques, Copyrights, legal fees, live Orchestration of a couple of songs from a full size Orchestra, and other various costs involved in producing a game of this magnitude.  This is why we need your help. it will have required well over a year and a half worth of work and development from our team by the end of this journey, and we are proud to have your support in the process. Even if you can not donate, please help us out and spread the word to your friends and family!
