My new solo album Silhouettes is recorded, mixed and mastered, but needs an additional boost to bring the project to completion.
This Kickstarter will be used to pay for designing album art, and cd and vinyl duplication.
Silhouettes is the most ambitious musical project I've embarked on to date. It's taken three years and hundreds of hours to write, record, and produce. It's a collection of 9 songs that will hopefully take listeners on a pleasurable, and memorable sonic traverse.
Over the years I've met some truly great folks, who also happen to be musicians. Some of these folks live in Alaska, while others call places like Portland, Seattle, and Nashville home. I was really fortunate to have some of these artists contribute to Silhouettes, including: Matt Rowland (keys), Courtney Marie Andrews (vocals), Brian Daste (steel guitar), James Glaves (electric guitar, drums), Martin Severin (bass), James Dommek Jr. (drums, percussion) and Greg Geddes (Drums), Emma Hill (vocals) and Meg Mackey (vocals), and Logan Bean and Corwyn Wilky (trumpet)
The majority of my album was recorded at my basement studio, The Wolverine Den. My good friend and constant collaborator James Glaves mixed the album, which was done at Martin Severin's Studio 2200. Nashville-based musician, producer and engineer Patrick Damphier mastered the album.
Bradley Wakefield is designing the album art (which will be rad!)
Risks and challenges
Having participated in two previous successful Kickstarter campaigns (The Whipsaws, Easton Stagger Phillips), I've definitely learned some valuable tools about staying organized, and keeping folks energized and enthusiastic about my artistic projects.
One of the challenges is staying organized and getting backers their rewards in a professional and timely manner. Another challenge (that I've gotten much better at) is sending items in appropriate packaging. It's also incredibly important to set and maintain a realistic budget.
It's very important to me that backers feel invested in what I'm doing, and I take it seriously. Having said that, my backers and fans also give me a lot of inspiration and motivation to keep making albums. So thanks for that :)
