Designed and illustrated by Alex Finis with the idea of bringing us all a little closer to Death, Tarot XIII is a unique take on the tarot where every card is at once itself, and card 13. The twenty two major arcana cards feature mythological, folkloric, or literary depictions of death from all over the world, each drawn by hand with ink, and with the influence of a style or method regional to that Death's area of origin.
Further goals would include custom packaging, an included booklet with information about the spirits on the cards, and a complete set of suit cards -- wands, swords, coins, and cups -- themed after one of the major spirits and with unique face cards representing historical or traditional instances of expiration to further expand our exploration of the morbidly interesting.
Risks and challenges
Since I'll be drawing all 56 of the stretch-goal cards, managing shipping, scanning, and editing, as well as designing and typsetting the box and booklet by myself, the estimated delivery of late April is a little ambitious. It might also take a while to ship and scale the project if interest begins to expand, so please don't be too upset or surprised if the process of delivery isn't finished until June.
One backer that desires multiple decks can be accommodated, based on pledge amount, campaign success, and with direct messaging.
Updates will be provided to backers if some parts of the process bloat or get delayed beyond expectations.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
