Bonus game piece sculpts are finished!

Gentlemen,

Thank you for your patience; I realize it's been a month-and-a-half since my last update, but our sculptor really went the extra mile to create some superlative sculpts for the new bonus game pieces that we've added to those versions of the game, and that took quite a while to complete. Progress was slow, but I decided to let him work at his own pace because of the really nice sculptures he was creating, and I know you'll be pleased with the final product, as well.

Presently, the sculptor is making requested changes and modifications that are intended to make many of the game pieces more durable during the casting process, as well as making them more durable as plastic game pieces during game play. So, all of this has caused a delay to the entire production process. For those that have not been following the thread about The War in Vietnam here on Kickstarter, note that the originally forecast target date of September is going to be pushed back because of the extra time that has been required to create all these extra bonus game pieces. Nevertheless, we are not sitting idle; we're pushing things along as fast as reasonable ...meaning as fast as possible without jeopardizing the quality of the game.

All of my doggerel aside, here's three select images of some of the bonus game pieces that have been finished:

The CVA sculpt will mean two types of aircraft carrier models.

In other news, I have actually had some of the game pieces test-cast to get an idea of size and integrity. Here you can see two MiG-21's (which are probably too small and may be enlarged a tad), as well as one of the other new bonus game pieces, the RPG version of the Viet Cong. These were created in clear resin so as to see all the details of the test-cast, but obviously the actual game pieces will be molded in their appropriate color.

Real, actual, factual, test-cast game pieces in clear resin!

Now, I actually intend another update very shortly, so don't worry that it'll be a whole month before the next one. Indeed, I hope to have another update in just a matter of days, but I presently wanted to let everybody see the progress of the new game pieces before I segued onto other subjects.

As a matter of fact, specifically I want to address the handful of people that have e-mailed me about possibly ordering the game now that the Kickstarter campaign for The War in Vietnam has ended: I can add your name to the backer spreadsheet and will contact you when we begin production if you are interested in getting a copy of the game. Likewise, for those of you that may know someone that would be interested in obtaining a copy of The War in Vietnam, please do let them know that it's not too late to get their name added to the backer spreadsheet. Every additional backer helps pay for extra goodies to add to the game (for example, a sturdier box, whatever we can think of), so don't hesitate to spread the word if you know someone that may want to get added to the backer spreadsheet.

Okay, please feel free to e-mail me directly if you have any questions, generally or specifically. I'll post another update by next week, with any luck.

Eric :-)

Hey brother. No gripe from me! I and the other backers know you're makin' it happen. Do what you can, when you can. I'd rather you worked on the project v. having to make posts on social media. Appreciate the response, too!

Matthew, thank you. I haven't been posting on the facebook page only because it seems like so few people paid attention to the game via FB (for whatever reason), but I will nevertheless post an update, good idea.

I've got multiple irons in the fire at the moment. There is, of course, the game pieces; I am waiting for the last of the modifications to be finished, and then I am carefully reviewing the language of the event cards and discussing every little word with the designer, to make sure everything is spot on, and then we're trying to finish the current playtest game and see what wrinkles we can iron out, and so there's been a lot more happening than may appear by my infrequent updates of late; alas, I haven't been as attentive to facebook as I could have been, you're right. I'll try to rectify that from here on out. :-)

Eric, can you put out a FB post about the spreadsheet access, as well as a Tweet; please? I'll help disseminate in both spheres to assist … for a nominal kickback. Kidding … kidding - about the kickback! Serious, about the posts though. Having the opportunity to get in after the project's end is payment enough!!

Mad props on the success, again; and thanks for letting us upgrade or bring others in!

I've been chompin' at the bit … for what seems like forever to be able to upgrade!! Sculpts look tight!

Thanks for the comments; it's always helpful to get reactions and impressions, etc. Barry, if I didn't know better, I would begin to think you have a problem with south paws! But yes, I think at least one of the images is a reverse image. Or, maybe the sculptor is a lefty. ;-)

Yes, the CVA is a purely superfluous addition. In the game, a carrier is a carrier is a carrier, but I had toured the USS Intrepid in NYC last year, so that inspired me to want to include a CVA. I can't 100% guarantee we'll have room for it, but I reeeeally want it in the game, so I will try. We'll have to wait and see what the manufacturer thinks about spacial availability.

To your question about the VC, right now there is no distinction between different types of VC, but the alternative pose lends itself to some possibilities, potentially. Presently, we just have VC and NVA, but a few of these "RPG" VC in the mix might allow for some kind of adaptation or so. This could likely see itself manifested with the solitaire game in some way (in reference to Gerald's post), but we're not there yet. Basically, we're having the extra figures molded first without altering the existing game in any way, and then we'll see about what can be done with them. :-)

The Marine and the Aussie look really good, though I don't understand why both are carrying their rifles "left-handed." A "reversed image" sculpt would correct this. I especially like the sense of "movement" in the Marine sculpt.

The carrier--angled-deck "Essex" modernization a la "Oriskany," if I'm not mistaken--looks great.

I agree, the MiG-21s are a tad too small--a 25-30% increase in size would be good. Like the guy with the RPG. Will there be any distinction in the "function" of the VC figs between "local popular forces" and "main force VC"? Having two figure types would permit this.

Beautiful! As a retired sailor, I approve of the CVA sculpt! And also I wanted to add my support to Gerald's comments.

I like the sculps. On another topic I hope that solitaire rules will be available for all the backers of this game and not just top level backers. It's nice to have that option of playing the game when you don't have an opponent to play.

Good to hear that people will be allowed to be added to the backer list, this game definitely has been gaining support and attention in the gaming circles.

Please keep me on the list for getting a copy of this game!

Great update Eric! I'm glad your taking your time and not rushing production with the game! better to have it be delayed a little bit than to rush it into production just to meet the projected timeline! The sculpts look really good in this update! Nice job , keep up the good work! ( Can't wait to see how this plays solitaire as that's how I will probably be playing most of the time!)

Eric, thanks for update #19. Better to have the sculpts that will last than rush things. So looking forward to this game.
