KRISHA tells the story of a multi-generational family that is gathering for Thanksgiving. Krisha has not seen her family for ten years, but when she decides to join her family for a holiday dinner, tensions escalate, and Krisha struggles to keep her demons at bay.
The Short Film
KRISHA, the short film, had its world premiere at SXSW 2014. There, it was awarded Special Jury Recognition for Cinematography for its, “extraordinary use of cinematography and editing to bring [the viewer] emotionally and thematically into the point of view of the protagonist.” Since SXSW, KRISHA has played at Academy Award-qualifying film festivals like the Seattle International Film Festival and Nashville Film Festival. The film will continue its festival run this year as it plays Rooftop Films Summer Series in August, Hollyshorts Film Festival in August, Woodstock Film Festival in October, and more.
The Feature Film
KRISHA, the feature film, will hold the same structure as the short film and expand on it. The entire film takes place over the course of one day, where the lead character, Krisha, joins her family for the first time in ten years. While on holiday, she intends to fix past mistakes and mend fractured relationships. Things start off well enough, but as the day turns to night, and tensions escalate, Krisha gradually becomes a war film. Our protagonist battles herself, where she is fueled by love, hate, rage, and addiction.
We would tell you more, but we don’t want to give away the entire story! We want to take you on this journey with Krisha. This will be an incredibly unique film, akin to something like a cinematic chamber drama. It will have the depth of an intimate character study and the tension of a thriller, with bold and visceral filmmaking.
Why Is This Unique?
This is a true independent film, and a very personal family affair. We are shooting in my parent's house, while most of the cast and crew are comprised of family members and friends. My aunt will be playing the lead role, while my mom, grandmother, and myself will all be playing supporting roles. However, this will go beyond being a small personal story with ambitious filmmaking and universal themes.
How You Can Help
The funds raised from Kickstarter will cover the last of the necessary production expenses, and will put KRISHA into production. Your donations will allow us to begin filming by the end of July, so that we can be ready for another festival run by the start of 2015. The help from Kickstarter will be INSTRUMENTAL to this film becoming a reality.
I personally funded the short film, and I am putting all the money I have left into the feature, along with my co-producer. Unfortunately, we are still unable to cover all of the production expenses. We are attempting to raise $10,000 on Kickstarter to:
- Pay for camera equipment, Steadicam, lights, and more
- Cover accommodation and travel costs
- Feed the cast and crew
If you would like more details, please email us at email@example.com or ask us questions in the FAQ section.
Don’t Think We Can Pull It Off?
We already have! We’re essentially making the feature the same way we made the short. All cast and crew members return, with the addition of a few more teammates.
Become a part of our community! Every dollar counts! And please help us by spreading our Kickstarter page far and wide!!

Risks and challenges
There are many unknown factors in making an independent film. However, we have already made the short film as a proof of concept for what we are capable of with half the resources we will have for the feature film. This film means everything to us and we will do everything in our power to make it the best film it can be.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
