The Gold Standard

Hello Tigers,

Guy here with another update on progress. It’s all coming together brilliantly but I’m afraid I got a little carried away and asked Jimmy for permission to up the amount of strips we were planning to include. I’d finished the script months ago but as we continued to talk about the material Jimmy was producing there were a few areas in the story that I wanted to go to back and expand. A few fun roads we hadn’t taken. It seemed a bit crazy to make more work for both of us but, as you know, this is a bit of a labour of love so we both gave in to our desire to make the whole thing bigger and better. Though naturally that’s caused him a few nightmares with his schedule. Especially as I was asking for thirty extra strips! But, you know, the more the merrier, eh? I let him have his medication after every twentieth panel.

(Jimmy is crying, the big girl).

As we’ve been creeping back onto schedule we were happy that it wasn’t going to have a major effect on our delivery date (besides, the more three-panel action included the happier we thought you’d be).

Another area of concern though has been the production/printing of the book. The low print run (relatively speaking) had steered us towards digital production (even though we originally intended it to be litho). It wasn’t a switch we were happy with but, being perfectly upfront about it, the costings seemed to give us little choice.

That said, we never felt comfortable with it. Given the 60s setting, and our desire to produce the best possible finished article, we have elected to return to traditional litho production, the digital samples although excellent, were not satisfactory. We wish to remain loyal to our existing printer (we have already advanced a sizeable deposit to secure the work), but this requires them to outsource some aspects of the job, this will result in a much longer turnaround time, adding a possible two months to their delivery schedule, we hope you will consider this worth the wait, quality is everything here at Goldtiger HQ.

We’ll post another update in a few weeks confirming everything (and giving you a definite date based on the printer’s schedule) but rest assured, while we’ve been quiet of late it’s not through inaction, quite the opposite!

Personally I don't mind waiting. It's rare enough to see litho printing these days and definitely worth the extra time. Quality beats out meeting deadline, right?

Thank you Mr Heger, you are Golden in our book, and our book is already Golden, so that's a lot of gold!!!!

      Can't wait! :)

(Well, actually, I can. I mean, I will. I will wait the extra time. Gladly)
