For a mixed bag of young professionals (Emerson, BU, and past alumni) with no theatre company behind them, this show is very ambitious. But we, like Antigone, believe in staring fear in the face and defying it.
As emerging theatre artists we're looking to challenge ourselves. Not only is the script an extremely difficult text to decipher, but we've imbued this production with our own original music (composed by Nicky Brownson) and powerfully unique aesthetic (production design by Devin Cameron Jewett, costumes created by Claire Kaiser), elements which require new materials from fabric to wire and everything in between.
After over a month of readings we've finalized the text, we've secured a space and we have assembled an incredible cast and design team. The only thing we need more of (of course) is funding. Boston has given us 4 years of knowledge, theatre experiences and an overall really great time. We have been taught as theatre students to create the opportunities for the art we want to make. We intend to start giving back today by doing exactly that.
Even the smallest donation will help us make this project the best it can be, and come see O/A: The Sophocles Project!
