Hey Friends! I’m Lari White xox
If you’re an Old Friend, you know I moved here to Nashville waaaay back in 1988, with my big hair and my left-handed guitar and my little girl dream of becoming a Star. And now, thanks to you, I’ve now been a recording artist for 25 years, starting with my first album, Lead Me Not, produced with my hero and mentor Rodney Crowell.
Since then you’ve given me a Gold record, made my songs hits on country radio, and come to a thousand shows in honky tonk bars and sold-out arenas. You bought popcorn at my big-screen debut in Cast Away with Tom Hanks, and martinis at my Broadway debut in the Johnny Cash musical Ring Of Fire. You’ve followed me through every crazy twist and turn of my career from country star to actress to soul singer to record producer and back, and proven over and over again that you are THE. BEST. FANS. EVER!
We’ve been through so much together, but there’s one thing we’ve never done together before… it’s something radical, something a little dangerous, something shockingly intimate, and it’s not finding a date on Tinder. I’m talking about… MAKING A RECORD TOGETHER! Yes! No record label, no Suits, just you and me and a bunch of my ridiculously talented friends.
OLD FRIENDS EP
Here’s what I wanna do: Not one but TWO – count ‘em – TWO EP projects, 14 new recordings that cover my whole musical life up to this point. The first one, Old Friends, rootsy reinventions of my biggest hits, songs like “That’s My Baby” and “That’s How You Know When You’re In Love” but naked and personal, just the way you like ‘em, like we do it in the world famous Bluebird Café and at the house concerts I’ve played for you in the last few years.
NEW LOVES EP
And the other set, New Loves, some of my favorite new songs I’ve written and covered in the last few years, songs like “Champagne” which has become a big hit at my live shows and resulted in a frig full of bubbly from you, the BEST. FANS. EVER.
I’ve already started recording it right here in the Holler, starting with “Champagne” featuring my friend Victor Wooten (aka The God of Bass), which you can get RIGHT NOW by making the tiniest possible contribution. But then I want to bring you inside this whole bizarre record-making process, cutting vocals at 3am, fighting over which song is better. And you’ll get to see a bunch of crazy talented friends sing and play on this project, like Travis Tritt and Shawn Mullins and LeeRoy Parnell and Suzy Bogguss, and of course, my baby, hit songwriter and Americana artist Chuck Cannon.
HERE IS HOW IT WORKS:
You make this whole new music project happen by contributing to our Kickstarter campaign, becoming the record label and co-producer of this album. And we’ve come up with all kinds of cool things to reward you when you do, like movie stills from my turn in Cast Away with Tom Hanks and vintage swag and Voice Lessons with ME and Backstage Pizza Parties.
And since I happen to live in the “IT-est” city in the world right now, I want to share my town with you…check out the “Lari’s Nashville” packages… you get to stay in the little historic house that Chuck and I bought when we were first married and where we shot the #1 “Now I Know” music video. I’ll even come to the house and MAKE YOU A CHAMPAGNE BREAKFAST!
So here we go! I’m so excited about making this project with you! I’m going to bring you here into the studio throughout the whole recording process, and I’ll be out there on Facebook and Twitter looking for your feedback – I want to know what you think! I’ll be leaking out little sneak previews of the new music and I want to hear from you. It's going to be a blast…let’s make a record together!
ABOUT THE "DOUBLE EP"
"Old Friends" and "New Loves" are distinct projects, but for this campaign we are packaging them together in unique "double EP" packaging exclusive to Kickstarter. All Kickstarter packages above $25 will include the Double EP package autographed by Lari.
Any pledge greater than $200 makes you a producer, and you will be credited in the packaging.
Risks and challenges
Your contributions will enable us to cover the cost of musicians, technicians, and marketeers to complete the "Old Friends" and "New Loves" EPs. As of June 2016, final tracking needs to be completed on all tracks (except Champagne) as well as mixing and mastering. We will make the final songs available to contributors just as soon as they are complete.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
