I consider live painting a performance art first and a visual art second.
I have done some live paintings recently where only brushes were used. I have found that people are more drawn to the energy and passion I bring to a mural I paint with brushes than with just spray paint. I have been practicing my painting techniques in a way that will be more visually appealing to watch as they are rapid, violent, careless, and chaotic. The whole time still being very much in control.
The mural will be built up in two distinct layers. The primary layer with utilize spray paint. I like to use spray paint as it allows me to work quickly to build up base color that other paint will be applied over.
The secondary layer with be done with brushes with acrylic paint and enamels to create various translucent and opaque layers, with a strong focus on line work.
I have yet to decide the exact direction of the mural, as I often draw inspiration as I start creating. However it will most likely deal with the same themes that tend to be the underlying focus of my previous murals. Themes dealing with duality, contrast, and the surreal. As per usual color choices will be carefully considered.
