What happens when you combine children's theatre, talented musicians, athletic instruction, and nurturing messages about teamwork and sportsmanship into one amazing, professionally recorded album?
My bandmates and I have seen first hand the power of music, puppetry, and live performance as a medium for engaging children and teaching lessons. Not to mention the way that children relate to characters like Dora, Diego, and Elmo. However, there seems to be a lack of "sport oriented" entertainment for young children.
As a children's theatre performer, I toured the country for years and met some great friends along the way. About two years ago I fell into a teaching position at a baseball training facility in Manhattan. It seemed that while ex-major league players could be amazing coaches and role models for teenagers, it took a little something else to explain proper batting mechanics to a 4 year old. I started creating my own program, full of rhythmic and musical elements in the form of chants and songs.
It seemed like something real was starting to come together, which is when I called my pal Chelsea. A wonderful musician and blogger extraordinaire, Chelsea was able to arrange some of my musical teachings into actual songs, which we then worked through with our drummer pal Drew. Drew is an amazing actor and gifted puppeteer, so it was a no-brainer that he would originate the voice and character of our Sport Tunes ringleader, SCOTTY!
So here we are, Kickstarter community. We recorded a six song demo through a generous donation of time and space from my old buddy Darby (you might know him from The Antlers) which turned out pretty awesome. You can give it a listen here - http://snd.sc/HENKiq
We would love to take this project to the next level in the form of a professionally recorded full length album. No telling where it could go from there. Music Videos? Television show? Animated feature film? You can help us make this a reality!
Get in now while the gettin' is good; in a few years you might be paying top dollar to see "Scotty and Friends, LIVE!" at a theatre near you! You'll lean over to your little one and say, "You know, I knew Scotty a long time ago...he and I go way back!"
Thanks again for your support!
