About this project
ABOUT THIS PROJECT
“A Million Ways to a Happier World” will be a crowd & open sourced digital project to gather and spread 1 million ideas to make the world a happier place.
We aim to produce a collaborative e-book co-authored by 1,000,000 people from around the globe. Based on the idea that spreading happiness is a spark for social change, this free and open-source document will serve as a powerful record of human happiness. It will be a tool for entrepreneurs, companies, governments, and leaders to promote happiness among their own communities.
Through the funds raised in this Kickstarter campaign, we hope to reach three specific goals:
- To design and build a digital platform to collect 1,000,000 ideas from around the world.
- To design and share a digital book with collected ideas.
- To produce 600 printed book, containing some of these ideas, portraits, and illustrations. Some books will be donated to public schools around the world. Others will be given out to our supporters on kickstarter.
WHY IS IT IMPORTANT?
We believe in the power of ideas, especially those ideas that can make the world a happier place. We also believe that happiness is contagious and can inspire, empower and unite people across countries.
Although happiness can be shared universally, it cannot be defined universally. Everybody has his own personal source of happiness and finds it in a different way.
With this in mind, we ask one simple question: What would you do to make this world a happier place?
HOW WE’LL START:
We’re launching this project at TEDxNewHaven, a conference on “The Art and Science of Happiness.” At the event, we’ll ask participants a simple question: What is your idea to make the world a happier place?
Next, award-winning photographer Danielle Levitt will take a portrait of each person. The individual’s idea for a happier world will be recorded, along with his or her name, profession and nationality. Finally, illustrators Justin Gabbard and Andre De Loba will provide a visual interpretation of each idea.
By the end of the day, we will have gathered over 150 ideas and portraits. These ideas will start us on the road to “A Million Ways to a Happier World.”
